Has anyone shot the Sig P226 in .40 yet?

TCW,

I recently acquired one -- this sidearm is built like a tank (literally!), has a fantastic accuracy, tames powerful .40 rounds masterfully, and has one of the most comfortable grip of all the handguns I've had the privilege to hold and shoot.

Initially, I was thinking of buying P226 in 9 mm but after handling one in a local store, realized there was absolutely no point of getting something so big and heavy with just 9 mm barrel.

I fully support a notion that for a given caliber, getting the smallest possible firearm benefits us more, considering that the fit, recoil, and accuracy stay within the desirable parameters. For 9 mm, something like P239 or P225, Glock 26, and Kahr MK9 will do just fine.

.40, on the other hand, is a whole different story. Hence, a gun the size of P226 is going to work for the shooter to make firing it more pleasurable.

The bottom line -- it's one of the better ones out there. The only thing left to add, I guess, is to mention that P226 is not for normal CCW. Granted, some people can carry Desert Eagles, but this Sig is a military/LE issue full size sidearm. For the home defense, however, it's a cannon.

Hey, thanks for the reply! I haven't heard much about this caliber/model combo on this forum. I think that's because it's only been out for short time (2 years?). I live in California and can't carry. Only criminals and cops...and Rosie's bodyguard carry out here, so I opted for a little larger than the 229. Oh, the 226 is everything you mentioned. Totally reliable and accurate. The extra three rounds (compared to the 220) doesn't hurt either. Nice to know there's at least one other person out there that's got the fortune to own this one.

I've carried one on duty for 2 years now and so far it is as good as my 9 was. Very accurate and totally reliable. As I said in another post, finest combat handgun manufactured so far (including the 1911-aahh, BLASPHEMY! :eek:

I love mine. I got the .226 in .357sig. then picked up a .40 barrel. I have kept the .40 barrel in there for about 4 months now. Recoil is very manageable and it is very accurate.

Like Flaim, I bought my P-226 in .357 Sig and added a Bar-Sto .40 S&W barrel. The Sig P-226 is a superb autoloader, clearly one of the VERY best available.

IMHO:
> Sig and H&K semiautomatics are close-to-flawless;
> Glocks and Kimbers are outstanding; and
> Springfields, recent Rugers, and several other brands are excellent.
I am excluding "custom" manufacturers such as Wilson and Baer from this analysis.
