Has anyone seen this? Almost shot his son.... (merged threads)

Folks should be aware that there are advertisements on the link that may be considered inapropriate by some.

It might seem obvious to some, but this is a good example of why I go over the safety rules with people if I am unsure that they: (a) know the 4 safety rules, (b) follow them to the letter, (c) know that they are imparitives, not rules to be broken.

Whenever I shoot with poeple that I have not spent alot of time with (with firearms), I take 5 minutes up front and go over the rules, and explain the importance of them. And I make sure everyone knows, that EVERYONE has to police the rules.

Ruger P-90, once again, I believe.

Great gun. He decocked with a round in the chamber, and almost took out his son.

1.) Treat EVERY weapon as if it were loaded

2.) Never point a weapon at anything you don't intend to destroy

3.) Keep the trigger finger straight and off the trigger until you intend to fire

4.) know your target (and what's beyond it)

Number 1 above would have prevented that scenario, and always will, as you will always pull a slide back on a weapon before handling, to inspect the chamber- even if you thought you had previously spent the round or unloaded it.

I'm absolutely insane about this with my family. Every weapon, 100% checks. From the box, from the case, from the holster, from the table, before cleaning... doesn't matter. Always on safe, always no trigger finger, always muzzle awareness, always cycle the slide to visually and physically inspect the chamber. Period.

Zero exceptions means zero accidental discharge.

Thanks for sharing the video, strong.

I'm thinkin' that nail gun one is pretty fake. I think those nail guns won't fire unless they are pressed up against something, kinda like some sort of barrel safety.

Nail gun safety features can be easily circumvented. :D

And speaking of nail guns....

Posted: 9:03 AM- Saratoga Springs police Thursday evening arrested a Kearns construction worker suspected of shooting his friend with a nail gun at least three times in the head and torso earlier this week.
Police booked 28-year-old Pedro Contreras in Utah County jail on suspicion of attempted criminal homicide and vehicle theft.
Contreras shot another construction worker, a friend of his from from Kearns, during a fight Wednesday afternoon at a job site, police said.
The victim was upgraded to critical but stable condition and is being treated for one wound to his head and at least two others in the torso, Cpl. Aaron Rosen said.
Rosen was unsure what the men were fighting about.

When guns are outlawed, only construction workers will have guns.

Folks, just a friendly reminder that TFL is a family oriented site. I'll leave this up (with the OP edited to include a warning] because it is a good example of how easily a tragic mistake can happen.

If you want to post a link at TFL, and the site is somewhat... questionable, please try to find the same video at another, family friendly site and post that instead. Most of these videos are posted on numerous sites, and Youtube usually has 'em all.

Mothers and kids here will thank you. ;)

I read somewhere that a deputy was killed because he decocked his double action pistol without the decocker. Apparently decocking it with the trigger left the hammer resting on the firing pin and his gun discharged when dropped on the hammer.

Anyone notice how close the guy comes to pointing his gun at his feet, too?

It really bugs me when folks buy or handle guns without at least taking a basic training course. This kind of stuff probably happens a lot more than we know about.

I am a certified instructor, and whenever someone I know buys their first gun, they usually call me and I go to the range with them and give them the basics free. I have never charged anyone for a full basic pistol course either. This helps to keep them safe, and denies the antis more firearm accidents to use as ammo for disarming the public. Gun owners who do not practice gun safety are really bad press for the rest of us.

You don't have to be a certified instructor to help out folks with gun safety. Volunteer to help out anyone who tells you they are getting their first gun.

I also noticed some of the other video clips to the right of the you-tube screen. One labeled "accidental discharge" was at a pistol range, so I watched that one too. It was just 5 seconds long, but you can immediately see the hand of a shooter as they are shooting a double action revolver single action. A common problem is folks cocking the pistol with the strong hand, with the finger inside the triggerguard.

When shooting this way, the cocking should always be done with the "weak hand", and the strong hand index finger out of the trigger guard. (SA pistols can be cocked the same way for new shooters).

The guy in the video in the opening post here needs someone to set him straight. He violates a whole bunch of the primary safety rules. All of them actually! Even though he almost killed someone, he probably still knows nothing of gun safety. He will most likely change his underwear and continue to use poor gun handling skills.

It always happens to the cocky guys thinking they know everything about gun handling and safety. If you keep in mind that you can be killed by a gun and you can kill a living being that its' muzzle crosses, you won't forget the cardinal rules of gun handling. Safety should be the first thing in anyone's state of mind when handling a gun. The dude in the filecab video is lucky he didn't send his kid to the hospital. I hope he learned how lucky he is. josh

Based on the previous comments, I knew something bad was going to happen and I still jumped! I heard myself tell him to "Watch that muzzle!" just before he had the ND. I'd like to know where that round ended up. Hopefully, not in a neighbor or his dog!

Yet another shooting video gone wrong...

WARNING: NOT SAFE FOR WORK
This is one of my favotite internet video websites. It features a section labeled "NSFW". I didn't realize it, but apparently the entire site can trigger workplace safety meaures. Use with caution.

Guy blows through a magazine, and leaves one round in the chamber. It's unclear if he knows he did that, but he then approaches his cameraman and it looks like he tries to lower the hammer by holding it with his thumb and pulling the trigger. Last round triggers and almost gets the camera man, missing by a few inches. It's enough to spin the camera man around.

The coup de gras: The camera man is his son! :barf:

DELETED.
Merging threads brought my point out of context - No biggie, just that my point died in the various responses
