that lead bullets melts on striking a very hard target? I somewhat recall a reference that said the lead in a bullet is pretty hot coming out of the barrel. Hitting a hard object might melt the lead.

I know depleted uranium does. That's why it's used with the Vulcan on the A-10 "Tankbusters". It'll melt a whole right through armor plate on a tank. Don't know about lead, though.....
