Harry Reid - Gun Control Vote Coming in the Senate

http://thehill.com/blogs/floor-action/senate/256077-dems-to-make-gun-control-push-on-thursday

According to The Hill, Reid has announced he will push for a gun control vote in the Senate this session. So it is time to write your Senators on the matter (particularly if you live in any state where a Senator is up for reelection) and encourage them.

In my opinion, this is part of a larger effort by the Dems to make gun control work for them for a change. There are 5-6 Republican Senators who voted pro-RKBA in 2013; but who are running for reelection in 2016 in states Obama won in 2012. At the same time, the only Democrat Senator up for reelection in 2016 who is more likely to be hurt by a gun vote is Michael Bennett of Colorado.

The Dems are hoping that a gun vote can be used to either hurt Republican Senators in those purple states or scare them into compliance. We want to reassure pro-RKBA Senators that is not the case.

Boxer is resigning. So the primaries are going to be a good place to have your opinion heard in California. I'd probably register as a Democrat if there was a good choice in the Dem primary race to replace her.

Same problem here in Washington, two anti-gun senators, they don't listen to anyone but the party bosses.

Still, it puts them on notice that the people don't exactly agree with them, no matter what the media tells them.

Exactly. Reid is the Minority Leader, so he has some pull; but he can't schedule a floor vote without the consent of the Senate Majority Leader.

However, I think it is important that we reassure those Republicans in purple states that we appreciate their support and we remember them (except for Toomey who I'd like to see primaried; but that probably isn't realistic).

Bartholomew Roberts is offline Report Post

A lot us in PA are looking for someone to run against him. It's often a topic on PAFOA.ORG.

The leading candidate to replace Barbara Boxer in the Senate is current Attorney General Kamala Harris, a democrat from San Francisco, who is a rabid anti-gunner who has defended every gun bill proposed in the Legislature, but more notably, declared that technology allowing "microstamping" of casings in semiauto handguns was unencumbered by patent and therefore "available, as a result of which all new pistols seeking certification under California's safe handgun roster rules and statutes would have to incorporate such technology. First of all, the technology "available" permits stamping in only one location on a casing (actually on the primer itself), not in two places as specified in the law, has never been tested outside a lab, and has never been incorporated into any manufacturer's goods. (Case pending.) Second, the effect has been to radicallly reduce the number of handguns available for purchase by California residents, from app. 2000 to 822 at present, and lead to boycotts by Ruger and Smith & Wesson of selling ppistols in the state. After getting sued to return the millions of excess DROS fees held by the state (fees that exceeded the cost of running the DROS system), she proposed and got passed a measure that dedicated these excess fees to seizing guns from persons no longer authorized to possess handguns (involuntary mental health commitment, conviction of a crime of violence or a felony, etc). So gun buyers got screwed. Third, after the brilliant decision of the Circuit Court in Peruta v. San Diego, she was the one who sought to intervene and ask for en banc reconsideration, after Sheriff Gore declined to waste any more money on the case. This despite the fact that for years the AG has argued that it is immune from suits challenging California's "may issue" law. Yeah, great choice for senator, huh?

Kamala Harris is every bit as bad as she's made out to be. Her main opponent for the Democratic nomination is Loretta Sanchez. I don't know much about her, but her NRA rating is a solid F.

So all things considered I think I'll keep my Republican registration and vote for the Republican candidate, just so somebody does.
