First let me begin by saying I know VERY LITTLE about shotguns, never shot one, had no desire. Going thru some stuff of my Fathers found shotgun that I remember him saying it belonged to his Father. This I know Harrington & Richardson single 26" barrel, exposed hammer. no model #, stamped on side Feb.20-27 either 1899 or 1900 hard to tell both could be wrong. Serial # in 2 places 207030 that I've found. Problem is it is in two separate pieces, there is a missing part that holds the barrel into the stock, just guessing but looks like it would be a rod/lever device. Could anyone tell me what I'm looking for ANY help would be greatly appreciated. Thought I would clean-up this old gun, not to shoot and give to my Son, something from his Father,Grandfather, Great Grandfather. Thanks.

H&R began manfacture of single-shot, break-open shotguns in 1908. These were chambered in various guages and several barrel lengths and chokes. There is little collector interest in these guns.
These break down into three pieces rather easily. These are: Stock (the wooden part that fits against your shoulder while firing), Barrel (the long tube), and the forearm (wooden part that fits under barrel and is supported by non-firing hand).

nothing on barrel, but reads harrington & richardson arms co. worcester mass usa pat feb 20 & 27 1900 on the receiver behind the trigger guard. it also reads pat feb 20 & 27 1900, pat may 14 1901 on the receiver above the trigger guard. hope i have not confused you, thanks.

Guess I finally found someone w/a similar gun..Harrington & Richardson 12ga single shot shotgun, yep, may14th,but mine says 1901....still got it?? sfm

I have one marked the same as jtrent's, but the markings may not be stamped in the same receiver locations. Serial no is 36616. The firing pin doesn't retract on its own but I have never fired or disassembled it.
On the left upper front of the receiver is stamped PAT FEB 20 & 27, 1900. Immediately beneth that it says PAT MAY 14, 1901. Then above the trigger guard is stamped HARRINGTON & RICHARDSON ARMS CO. Below this it reads "WORCESTER MASS USA PAT FEB 20 & 27, 1900."
Barrel measures 32".

The earliest H&R shotguns were the "Anson & Deeley" hammerless doubles of the early to mid 1880s. It is not known whether the parts were made in England and assembled here or made and assembled here, under license, or possibly a combination of both????? The next foray into shotgun making began in 1901 with the Model 1900 single shot, break action, heavy frame.
