Harmony at the Rifle Range

I woke up this morning and the news was beyond depressing concerning the problems in MO.
:(
About half way through my coffee I remembered Friday at the rifle range.
Wow, I needed that.
:D
On my end of the line, to my left there was an older Asian gentleman - er lol my age.
To my right a Black man and next lane two Latin shooters.
I usually see only green so it wasn't note worthy at the time.
I was the senior shooter there. I was helping sighting in, loaning a spare bench rest and enjoying the conversations.
A very pleasant experience.
All polite, gracious people enjoying the day.
A real bright memory in light of other events.

Yes, I had a similar experience at a local indoor range in suburban Atlanta. There were seven shooters and I was the only “stereotype” in the place. I suppose there is some truth to the shooting sports being dominated by white males, but I think it is often overstated. I hope groups like the NRA and we as individual shooters will find better ways to reach out to everyone. We also need to finds ways to help people connect their choices at the ballot box to protection of their Second Amendment rights.

As for the issue of race in general it always amazes me how well we seem to get along as individuals, but have such conflict as members of groups. Maybe we need to stop thinking of each other as members of some group and simply as individuals.

I think we can also attribute it to a group of mature and decent folks enjoying and sharing the same simple pleasures life provides us.

Hey! Some of the guys were young! Lol

Don't forget the women. I went to the range a week ago with my wife and it must have been 30% women. Mostly young and of all races but good to see.

I used the word "mature". Younger people can also show maturity.

I also used the word "folks". This is somewhat of a Southern terms which refers to both genders.

I am an older "folk", and I may of been more "mature" when I was younger. :)

Thanks~ I still have enuff maturity to know when other folks are just joshing with me. It gives you a warm acceptance feeling. ;)
