Harmful to Field Strip New M1A?

I was reading the manual to my new M1A. I have the standard model with the walnut stock. The manual seems to discourage field stripping of this weapon, especially the glass bedded type, which I can see. But why would it hurt to disassemble my Standard model? Thanks for the help.

Well, if you know how to put it back together without a hammer or welding torch, I fail to understand the problem.

Granted, there are some people who should not have a wind-up clock...Others, who can take a rubber hammer and break an anvil.

The first-ever time around, of course, it helps to do it in the company of somebody who's experienced.

I had an M1A Match, years ago, that had problems with the disconnector. They sent me a new trigger group ASAP; I installed it, and all was well. Hey, it's just a Garand with bomb-bay doors!

And, hey, how else ya gonna clean it? Or learn to field strip and reassemble in around one minute? Blindfolded!

Repeated removal and replacement of the trigger group with a wood stock can compress the wood fibers (where the trigger group fingers meet the stock), causing a loose fit. I see no reason to field strip an M1A sooner than every 500 rounds, and only once a year if its a bedded match rifle. It's also recommended that if you store your rifle for extended periods that you release the trigger group.

I know one fellow who glued little rubber pads to his very old USGI M14 stock to compensate for the compressed wood fibers. Worked like a charm.
