I recently came across a belgian barrel ,double barrel, muzzle loader, nothing is fancy about it but its but stock , real fancy carving bold and deep. And the front funiture isnt the kind that extends very far down the barrels. Now heres the hard part No Markings other than belgian crown etg tge or whatever , was told look in late 1800s.
note.. missing ram rod , front furniture release rigged, and hammers wont lock back other than that , what a gem be in family for long long time

Belgian makers produced a lot of utility grade shotguns, first muzzle loaders and then breechloaders. The switchup started around 1850 with pinfires, and few MLs were made after maybe 1870. Few had names or anything other than proof marks. Betcha there's a ELG on the barrels under the forearm.

This is an artifact, not a firearm.

Do check if it's loaded. Slide a cleaning rod down each bore and mark where the muzzle is. Then lay it along the barrel and see if the end comes to the nipples when the mark you made is at the muzzle.

If it's still loaded, a smith can make things right.

DO NOT TRY TO SHOOT IT OUT!

And do not even dream about making this thing into a lamp.

Have you been able to figure out the guage? The last one I had like this, turned out to be an 8Ga. Ramrods are not hard to come by as new tips and hickory is available but sure would be nice to find some old original tips. Very nice M/L you have there ... :)

Stoegers was selling Belgian muzzleloaders with that type of stock carving as late as 1939. Prices ran from $25-$100 depending on the amount of carving and engraving. I can't imagine paying that for a novelty item considering that a Lefever Nitro Special was $30 and a Winchester Model 21 was $72.45 at the time.

yes elg is on barrel inside of belgian crown thing other barrel has 80 on it and as far as what caliber looks like the end of every other muzzle loader ive ever seen
