My Military story to share. As a Teenager growing up In Florida, I loved the water. I saved my money up and got a tri-hull boat with 50hp Evinrude. I had a ton a fun. I wanted to join the Coast Guard.

When I turned 18 years old, I went down to the Recruiters office. The coast guard was my choice. They couldn't do it, officer was on leave, some excuse. They couldn't sign me up that day

I walked next door to the Marine Corps, No problem. I signed up right there and now. They promised me everything. I actually got to do two deployments on the USS German town. As a lower enlisted Personnel, My obligations were very enjoyable. I got to throw a lot of trash of the flight deck at zero dark Thirty. I knew my way around a mop and broom. I never held a paint brush that didn't like me. I would do it all over again Charlie

Unless you were at least 6' tall you couldn't join the Coast Guard anyway.

You have to be that tall so you can walk to shore if your boat sinks.:D

It's amazing (and heartwarming) to see how attitudes have changed. When I got back from SE Asia in 1969, I got spit on at the San Francisco airport when I was trying to fly home for my leave. (I was in uniform.)

To all of you who thank ANY veteran for their service, God Bless.

I went to Chik-fil-a after work and they were giving away free food to all veterans. The place was packed with veterans along with a large number of pre-teen girls. Suddenly the little girls all grouped up and begin singing the Star Spangled Banner. Without hesitation everyone stopped eating and stood while they sung. While probably exactly what you would expect the crowd to do I’ll admit to being very proud that they still did.

Happy Veteran's Day (yesterday) to all who served. We appreciate your service and your sacrifice. This is an amazing country we get to live in, thanks in a major part to you men and women!!

I love that story so much because having traveled the world, I can say that you DO NOT see this kind of honest patriotism in other countries. Other countries have patriots, have lots of military parades, play the patriotic music often enough... but this is the country I have spent time in that patriotism in a public restaurant is not only respected, but participated in, and seen as praise worthy and right. God Bless America, He certainly has and I pray we continue to get to enjoy these freedoms!

A heart felt 'thank you' to any and all veterans is a VERY nice thing to do.

Let's also elect some folk that will provide the veterans with some tangible benefits too. IMhO improved medical benefits would be near the top of the list.

What if one two-year enlistment in the military got you the same benefits a congress person gets after one two-year term in office...
