Times got rough here the past few years and had to sell all my guns after everything else went to stay in my home, some I've had since my teen years, heart broke me to do that.

How many have ever seen an AK47 with a steel tang behind the pistol grip with screws going up into the wood stock?

I stood defenseless for the first time in my life, with the world turning upside down and a few hundred bucks in my pocket I went to a gun show for the first time in years. I was expecting everything to be thousands of dollars worth buying, I was wrong. Prices were cheaper than they were a few years ago last one I went to.

I found a half dozen of these here Cetme Critters laying about from 7-$850.00, some with wood stocks, some with plastic. I never studied much about them but did take a liking, waited til after noon sunday and brought one home for $600.00 with three mags.

I found this site and read what I could find, other sites as well, seems to be quite alot of different versions. I spoke to two different local gunshop owners and got two different opinions as well, neither very encouraging.

I took it out to shoot, 100 rds junk ammo, was a foot high, foot to the left at 100 yds but functioned perfectly 100%, nasty trigger pull and all. About a four-five inch group.

The gun was nasty, gave it a bath, polished the trigger and reciever to smooth it up a bit, cranked the front sight up and full left rudder, 2nd shooting was 160 rds of cheap ammo, flawless operation, was closer to the bull but still shooting left, four inch group average. I thought the stock was a bit short, too close to the rear sight for a good sight picture. I love Peep Sights.

The poly stocks were rough and dinged up a bit, used bondo to make them more better. Added 1 1/2" of wood, 1/2" of foam and rubber for a recoil pad to get my eyes farther from the rear sight, the peep picture is now smaller and better focused, filed some off the front sight to move the P.O.I. to the right more and gave it a coat of Wrinkly Paint, no shine, great grip with sweaty hands today as it was quite warm out this afternoon.

Today using Federal 149 gr. FMJ at 100 yds it did a 3" group using the #2 peep sight. I'm liking that, my work paid off. (grew up in a gun shop)

Is it Pollitically In-Correct to make my own cheek pad, recoil pad and Wrinkly Paint? Oh Well.......

not the best looking beastie, but a beastie nonetheless.

and 3 moa is nothing to complain about, although you will hear guys do it.

put a red dot on it and your groups might tighten up even more. or maybe not; some people just do better with irons.

one more thing: glad to hear that you are back on your feet enough to justify buying a gun.

I never been much a fan of Pretty Girly Guns with Diahrea that shoot cute little bullets. Something Wonderful happens everytime I shoot a 308.
:D

I have one with the wood stock and it's a great gun. It's fun to shoot and doesn't mind cheap surplus ammo. Another cool thing you can do is take the plug out of the end of the tube on top of the barrel and slide a Mini-Mag flashlight in there. Fits just right.

I was wandering about the function of that plug? It's a little loose, tried to drive the pin out lightly with a drift and it didn't budge any

I'll try again....... Cleaning Kit! .....

Thank You.
:p

Your Rifle was a copy of the G3 H&K. I bought one in a Gun Club in Toronto, the G3, from a member with money problems, it was like new, he had made a lot of money from loaning it to a film armorer (The movie was shot around Niagara Falls) but now he was broke, and would only take cash! I had $250 in my wallet, that is all I had.

I had bought me a Rifle! It was flawless, and accurate, shooting at a range, one sunny day, a good friend fired it. It had a great trigger, I think it had some work done to it.

He wrote me a check for $1250. Had some fun, made a K.

Love your story!

Thanks, the trigger pull was horrible, like hooking a chain to my Surburban and dragging it sideways across an uphill gravel parking lot, after some 400 sand paper and jeweler's rouge on a cloth dremel buffing wheel it's now smooth as silk and right at 6lbs.

One of the mags is lazy feeding the last two - three rounds and causes stovepipe, the other two mags work perfect. I took it apart last night and cleaned it, polished the follower, stretched the spring a little and re-assembled it, hope that cured the problem.

The only thing I don't like is the bolt doesn't lock open with an empty mag, I haven't seen any discussion or mods on the upper reciever to do it.

Seems like an easy enough mod and a market for someone with a little creativity.

Is there such a thing anywhere?

I may be interested in an original Bi-Pod as well, haven't seen one of those either.

Jerry,

I once had the two bearings in the bolt, end up, standing out! Could not reassemble the rifle.

Solution, reverse the bolt, fire it into the receiver, back wards! popped in! Fixed.

I had a Century CETME a little while ago. There wasn't anything wrong with it, it was accurate, and reliable, but man was it crudely assembled. My AK's seemed refined by comparison. Fit and finish isn't everything though, I'd choose one of those over an AR still.

Roller Bearings, thanks, I had a heck of a time twisting and turning the bolt assembly to re-position them properly.

Mag Springs, have nothing to loose as cheap as they are, can buy mags $4.00 each online.

Crude assembly, agreed, not a pretty rifle but for $600 it's some serious reliable firepower.

My first choice is a Sig AMT, FN FAL, M-14, or HK91, unfortunately all of which are beyond my Pay Scale today.

I guess there's no one with an option to hold the bolt open after the mag is empty?
