Happy birthday to me!

Just put my birthday present to myself on lay-a-way. It's a "Made in the 200th year of American liberty" 4" SS Ruger security six .357. Aught to make a great back-packing gun.

Had to get that out.........................OK, I'm better now:D:D

Fantastic revolver! Congratulations!

I would have a safe full of Security, Service, Speed Six revolvers if I could find them at reasonable prices.

Awesome, congrats. I own a 2 1/2 inch version that I bought from a pawn shop years ago. It gets smoother with every squeeze.

Congratulations!

Any pictures?

(Asks DaleA who has never managed to get a picture posted without using language unsuitable for polite company.)

The only bad thing about the Six series gun is that parts and service are getting harder and harder to come by. Ruger no longer services these guns. When they break, they're going to be costly and inconvenient to repair.

That's why I prefer a GP100.

Happy Birthday!

And congratulations on your fine new revolver. I have a blue Security Six that I got in 1971, it was my first double action revolver, and it is still a favorite.

You can get parts for the security six and other versions from e-gunparts. I bought a first year run with a 150 prefix and the prior owner has reassembled the gun incorrectly and managed to bend the latch pivot screw. I bought a new latch and pivot screw and the cost wasn't much at all. I am not sure if they have all the parts but there are parts available.

I have a later (1986 IIRC) and the pivot pin is larger in diameter than the first run gun. Maybe that was a problem and ruger beefed them up. I like the size of the security six guns but believe the GP-100 is a sturdier gun. I just wish they would lose that heavy underlug.
