And the winner is. . .

After much wailing and knashing of teeth, and much consultation of the TFL site, I just purchased a sweeeeeeet Glock 26. Thanks to everyone who weighed in with their opinions as to good concealed-carry pistols. I cannot wait to get this baby onto the range tomorrow.

Now about those grip extenders. . .

Glad you got a Glock. The 26 is about the best one out for concealed carry. The grip extensions are nice but they do cause it to print more. I put them on my mags and only lasted about a week befor I had to remove them again. They feel nice but I just cant hide them as well.

Skkjester,
I have a G27. The grip extenders do help you hold the pistol while practicing. However, the downside is they make the gun harder to conceal, and downright uncomfortable. (It digs in my side.) I solved the problem by just putting the extender on one mag. I use that one for practice and the "plain" mag for concealed carry.
You're gonna LOVE the Glock! I consider my G27 the best pistol that I've ever owned. When/if the G36 gets in gun shops, I'll consider that one too. :)

Congratz! The G26 is a great shooter and a great carry gun!
Don't let anyone tell you that it is not accurate just because it is short. It is extremely accurate.

Pick up some Proload ammo at www.proload.com and you are well set for self defense.

I like the grip extenders. I do not find them to add to the problem of concealment as they are on the FRONT of the grip, and the back of the grip is the part the prints when I carry.

Also, as someone who carries concealed a lot, the G26 is WAY easier to conceal than a G19, even with the finger extension on it.

There are only two things you really need to do to your Glock to improve it, because it comes just about perfect out of the box:

1) Get a LOT of ammo and shoot the hell out of it. It will never wear out, it will only get sweeter with use, and YOU and your shooting abilities are the best upgrade to your Glock.
2) Second, dry fire it at home a LOT. The trigger will get smoother with dry firing and more importantly you will get smoother with dry firing. Watch the front sight and get it to the point where it is perfectly still through your whole trigger stroke.

Enjoy!!!

I feel I should respond to WLM's post, that he uses the extenders for practice only, and carries without one. Isn't that potentially dangerous? I mean, you're practicing with the extenders, meaning all of your experience firing the pistol is with that extra hold. I would think that might be a problem when you find yourself in a tight spot, and now have to fire without the extra grip.

Just a thought. . .

I have a brand new set of tupperware in my kitchen. They conceal real well too in my brown paper bag. The only problem is, when I hold it in my hand, it just feels too fat.

On a serious note, I used to own a G17 and G19. I sold them both but kept my G30. Great reliable gun but it is a tad fat for my small hands. If my hands were larger, I'd be a real Glock fanatic.

I believe you have a point. One of my G33's two mags came with the Pierce Grip on it and one without. I've dedicated most time at the range to mastering this little pocket rocket with the 'pinkie dangling' grip, using the logic that if I practice with the pinkie extender and have to draw with the flush floorplate, what are my chances of fumbling the presentation under stress thinking that I've mis-gripped the pistol when my pinkie encounters open air?

Congratulations. I don't want to cast a shadow on your pride, but make sure to check that your Glock 26 doesn't have a defective guide rod. Take a minute and call Glock at 888-569-6830 just to make sure your pistol isn't affected. If it is Glock will mail you a new guide rod pronto.

So many pistols, so little money.

I own a G17 & G19 and realy think they are great pistols. However, for concealed carry, the KAHR MK9 (which I aso own) is very hard to beat. Glock like in operation, it is smaller, thinner, and about the same weight as a G26. OK it holds fewer rounds (6+1 vs 10+1) , but it conceals better than any Glock.

Now, if Glock made a single stack 9mm about the same size as the MK9, I would buy one, but given the current "climate" in gun control, I doubt if Gaston Glock will invest anymore money in the American market. For cryin' out load, it is now illegal to buy a Glock in Massachusetts, the cradle of the American revolution.

Sad but true.

congrats. I just got a new G26 too. I really like how this baby conceals. I carry it in a pocket holster. It just disappears in my pocket. I am going to get the extenders, because the frame has a tendency to abraid the thumb knuckle of my shooting hand right at the joint. If I have to, I will give up pocket carry for an IWB holster, but only if it prints to much.

I purchased a new G26 several weeks ago and like it. I thought it was time to give Glock some support so I spent my saved S&W money for it. It shoots good groups and has been 100% reliable. Just put Scherer mag extenders on yesterday but haven't shot it since. I have an Allessi ankle holster on order.

As the owner of a Glock 26, Glock 19, Glock 17, and Glock 34... Congrats on a clearly superior choice!

I use the Pearce brand extensions on my G26 and highly recommend them. They do not, for me, detract from this pistols easy concealment and do add a small amout of control needed for quick, accurate, repeat shots.

If your G26 doesn't already have them, I'd also suggest night sights. I like IWI's PT sights in the three dot version myself. They are available from www.botach.com for $48 plus shipping.

Good luck with your new pistol.
