Hannity & Colmes--Is Rosie a hypocrite?

Last night (Friday), H&C's first discussion issue was whether Rosie is a hypocrite. The guests were a former president of HCI, and John Lott. I was totally disgusted by what I saw. The program did a very good job of making sure both sides got to present their stories, but what disgusted me was how blatantly the HCI rep lied . Now, I know that HCI lies for a living, but when faced with actual, verified, academically produced and scrutinized statistics, the HCI rep said, "that's not true, that's not true, that's not true."

Even after the conservative host (Hannity or Colmes, I don't know which) went through a series of Rosie quotes, including the one about how "I know it's in the constitution, but there ought to be a law, that no one can have a gun in America. IF you own a gun you should go to prison (except police)," the HCI rep said Rosie is not a hypocrite because she has never advocated the disarming of America. Hello!

As usual, John Lott did a very good job of presenting the data in support of RKBA and destroying the HCI data (which, by the way, is verified by HCI researchers (presumably the same ones who "accidentally" estimated Maryland's gun crime rate to be twice what it actually is)). The HCI rep's response was to simply say that John Lott was not telling the truth.

I know they lie. I know they lie. I know they lie. But when they do it right into the camera like that it infuriates me. "I did not have sexual relations with that woman--Miss Lewinski."

I have always made it a policy of mine to be honest with people and never to deliberately mislead anyone. And I'm a lawyer, for cryin' out loud. I get lied to every day by opposing counsel. It bothers me, but that only involves my clients' business rights. When someone screws with my individual rights by lying, I find it much more offensive and enraging.

When I started this post, I didn't intend it as such a rant. I guess I just don't have anyone to vent to in person. You have all been a wonderful source of information, wisdom, entertainment, and guidance for me, so I guess I felt it was o.k. to unload (no pun intended) ;).

Anyway, did anyone else see H&C last night, and if so, what was your take on the flagrant deception of the HCI rep?

Finally done,
Paul

I only saw the last few minutes of it.. but I do agree.. It seemed that every time Lott said something, the only thing the HCI guy said was "that's not true.." I also saw the part where the HCI guy said that rosie never advocated the disarming of America.. When the moderator hit him back with rosie's "if you own a gun you should go to prison" quote, all he said was "well, she said that a long time ago" (or something like that) and then very quickly tried to change the subject.. He had just been caught in a major lie.. Pathetic..

At the end of the segment, Lott made a final statement, and the last words out of the HCI morons mouth (as the moderator was introducing the next topic) was "that's not true, that's not true, that's not true..." as they were turning his microphone off. He sounded like a 6-year old... I hope people are really starting to see these type of people for the liars they truly are...

Paul,

Very well said. I didn't see the show but it doesn't suprise me about the HCI responses.

Something I did hear was one of Rosies body guards applied for a Concealed Carry Permit. Is this another "do as I say not do as I do"

We as gun owners must present good data when discussing the issues. I have a saving "In God we trust all others bring DATA". We need to put the other side on the defensive ask them to back up statement stats. etc. You know they lie but make them lie on record.

A few years ago my dear mother made the statement to me that no one should be able to own one of those deadly assualt rifles (this was after the shooting out in CA a few years back)and probably only criminals would want one.

When I told her that both of her sons owned a couple each (Hi Power shooting and plinking) she sort of changed her mind since either of us are criminals.

I was wondering if Ford still sponsors Rosies shows and I wonder how many hunters and shooters own Fords? The question I'm asking is why do we support companies that help pay the big $$$ to people like Rosie that will to take away our freedoms.

You all have a good day.

Well, I taped the show last night and watched it again this morning. Man, it still pi$$es me off. HCI rep says that states with tough gun control have crime rates drop faster than states with "loose" gun laws. Of course, John Lott really tore into that "statistic" and totally refuted the basis on which it was determined. HCI rep said, "well, this is the first time this statistic has ever been challenged," to which John responded, "you and I debated this before!" Lott completely explained why HCI's report was wrong. HCI rep said that the data were "verified." Lott responded by explaining that verification meant that it was put into a press release. HCI rep could not refute Lott's data, other than to say that John [sic] Kleck criticized Lott's More Guns, Less Crime book on the basis that there are too many variables to control for. No direct challenge was made to Lott's reference to Hawaii, where guns are registered, that police there admit that no crime has ever been solved because of a licensed gun.

I find myself getting less patient with these people. I do feel, however, that although it will probably get a little worse before it gets better, that it will actually get better in the next couple of years. I think the antis are shooting themselves in the foot :D (that one was intended). When the likes of Rosie bemoan the evils of guns, yet hire an entourage of armed guards, people begin to realize that ultimately, maybe people are really only concerned with their own individual safety. That was Lott's final response about Rosie, i.e., that her "need" for guards was based on threats, just as every other American who wants a gun for defense "needs" the gun to protect themselves against threats. Duh.

Thirty_Handicap: I saw the show, too, and was
pretty angry. It seemed the HCI hired gun's whole tactic was to shout down anything that Lott said. I wish that, at some point in these shows, Sean Hannity (the conservative)
would point out that Lott doesn't work for the NRA, isn't a member, didn't own a gun until recently and is as unbiased as you can get in this debate.

BTW, did you notice a particular new Democrat
buzzword being used? "Evolved." When Hannity mentioned Rosie O's positions from last year,
the HCI mouth said her position had "evolved." Recently, the Democrats have reconciled Gore's positions on abortion and gun control from the 80's with his positions now by saying he's "evolved." Now Rosie has "evolved."

If this evolution continues at this pace, by next year she'll already be up on the beach crawling on four legs.

I saw the program too and was just as infuriated as you guys. Lott presents real data and the HCI dufus just says "that's not true." Sean Hannity needs to follow up on that kind of crap and pin this bastard to the wall by asking him what's not true about it. Where does Lott's data lie? HCI is an insidious, unprincipled group of prevaricators which should never be allowed to go unchallenged and debated at every turn.
