Handloading sabot shotgun slugs?

I recently saw on the lightfield shotgun website that they sell slug-sabot components for the hanloader/reloader. Has anybody tried doing this - and does the ammo match in accuracy to factory? As far as I know they are the only company offering these components. Also any special trick to getting the proper crimp. I would sure like to try it since all sabots are a big rip-off. I mean, how much can yoiu practice with ammo that runs $12 -22 for 5 rounds!!

You can buy some Lyman cast hourglass slugs on gunbroker.com. Use the Federal Gold medal hull, WAA12F114 wad,WW 209, and 32.0 of Herco, fold crimp. Check the Lyman SS manual #4 to be sure I remembered correctly. They have the rep of being one of the better and less expensive replacements for those ****** $3 a shot factory loads. CB.
