Handled some Semiautos today

Went to the local Gander Mountain, and wrote down some prices and handled some pistols.

The Para-Ordnance P14-45 didn't have NEARLY as bulky a grip as everyone seems to say it does. the only modifications I'd do to it, if I were to buy one, would be to add a larger, ambi saftey and an extended beavertail. I really liked it.

I handled a regular 1911 (actually, a Colt 1991A1) to compare. Very slim grip.

The Beretta 92 and Ruger P95 both fit my hand very well, though I liked the Beretta better.

If I had to decide right now, I'd go with a Para-Ord P14-45. I really liked the pistol.

Duh...I must be over tired. The pistol HAD an extended beavertail, I'd just need to add the saftey. How hard is it to install an ambi saftey on a 1911? Do you need a gunsmith? See, I don't want to pay several hundred extra for the Limited, and get what is essentially a target pistol with a load of features that I don't need.

I had a 'gunsmith' install an Ed Brown ambi on my Para. It fell out.
I had a friend who is also a trained machinist install a STI ambi, it works like a charm. I offered him $50, he said it wasn't worth that.
I guess if you can find someone who knows what they are doing ti isn't diificult. ;P
You will need to get a set of LTD grips, as these have the cut out to allow the extension on the right side safety to move freely. (This extension retains the safety).
You can try relieving the right side grip with a file, but I wouldn't bother personally.
