Handgun Training in IL/IA

Nice forum ya'all have here - I'm looking forward to learning a lot.

Recently, I purchased my first handguns and am signed up for CCW class next month.

What I'm really interested in is finding an organization in the Eastern IA/Northern IL area that will provide me with GOOD instruction and training.

I've looked up Blackwater's website, they are conveniently located and I was thinking about starting with their 'entry-level' class. Are there any other venues that ya'all might recommend? Any advice on what to look for/avoid?

TIA

Check out Midwest Training Group at their dot net web site, they are near Bloomington. It's run by an Iowa LE who is a wiz with a revolver. I went to LFI-I there a couple of years back. Took my son to the Intro class and I'm taking my daughter next time.

They have guest instructors like Cirillo, Farnam, and Ayoob. Hackathorn will be there this year. Couldn't recommend them more highly for safety and experience.

Jim Cirrillo is dead. He died in a motor vehicle wreck in New York. I took one of his last classes at Midwest. Good training. I'm going to miss Cirrillo. He was good people a good instructor. He even let me shoot his Glock one day at the range. Nice pistol.

Thanks for the recommendations - I appreciate the information! Think I'll sign up for the Midwest intro class... it's easy to set up a target out by the woodpile but I'd rather get some legitimate feedback/training BEFORE I go out on my own and pick up a bunch of bad habits.
