Handgun Sales

So, I see in another thread that AR sales are throught the roof to the point of long back orders. Has this carried over to handgun sales/supplies in your area?

My favorite local gun shop has been setting records in all categories, but generally, the hottest sales are for things that are assumed will be outlawed when the Clinton Ban Supersized is put back in.

So all black rifles, high-cap pistols, and of course, high-cap magazines of all kinds are flying off the shelves.
And of course, everyone's stocking up on ammo because of the 500% tax on all ammo that Obama hisownself has favored.

My local gun stores have been selling 2-5x the number of guns they usually do, even during hunting season. As mentioned above, all of the previously banned weapons are selling out rapidly because of the fear of another ban that could be longer or permanent. Personally I'm not too afraid of any of this happening. It very well could, but I guess I have enough firepower to satisfy me against many different situations. I'm all for more guns though. The only thing that's bad about all this is that the prices are going up as well. There are always ways to get the weapon you want. The main thing I'm afraid of is that shooting will become much less popular and ammo prices will soar even higher. I guess it's time to look into handloading. To answer your main question though: Yes. From what I've seen many people are buying more handguns than usual, especially, but not limited to the hi-cap ones.

I live in Hampton, Va. and per an article submitted in the Daily Press (local rag) gun sales are up. Interesting to say the least.

I started to build a new AR upper in 6.8 SPC last month. So far most of the parts I have tried to purchase are back ordered anywhere from 6 (upper receiver) to 14 months (barrel) :( A trijicon ACOG sope? forgetaboutit!

Bulk ammo is mostly sold out too on web sites. Watch for the prices to go up when and if the guns and ammo is restocked.

Went to the gun show in Austin today to stock up on ammunition and was also looking for a lightweight S&W .38 revolver. The two ammo stands I usually deal with were stripped bare. I did manage to get 100 .38s from Collins and two boxes of defensive ammo from the other stand. Collins usually is overflowing with product; today, just a few boxes were left by the time I got there at 11 after giving blood. The woman said that they were pretty much bought out by the folks waiting at the door when the show opened at 9. I've never seen it so crowded, took 20 minutes just to find a place to park and they have a BIG lot. Also found the gun I wanted, but the wait for paperwork was an hour or more, so I bagged it.

Maybe people are overreacting a bit; Obama doesn't even take office for two months, and it's not likely given the economy, the war and the rest of the mess we're in that guns will be his first priority. But, hey, I was there for the same reason everybody else was; stocking up before le deluge.

When I went to my range/gunshop yesterday, people were lined up three deep at the counters. I have never seen the likes of it.

I went to the Glendale gun show today, it was the busiest I have ever seen for a small show. Three to four times the regular amount of people. I wants a lot of ammo sales.

A local dealer told me yesterday (at a gun auction :D ) that he sold twenty-seven semiautomatic handguns the Saturday after the election. He's never sold so many handguns in one day. He's a smallish dealer whose focus is used guns.

Another local dealer told me that in the past month his sales are double that of the past 18 months.

The both said that they are selling semiauto handguns and black rifles on a scale that surpasses the months leading up to the AWB going into effect in 95.

On the other hand revolvers, lever action rifles, bolt action rifles and sporting shotguns are moving at about the same speed.

So I bought a Winchester Model 12 yesterday. I've got plenty of black rifles and semiauto handguns. As well as ammo and hi-cap mags. But it's interesting to watch.

Just got back from my local Gun Shop / Range... Nowhere near as busy as last weekend. In fact, AR's were back on display and they said it was actually a pretty slow day.

This probably had something to do with deer season opening today, nonetheless I was glad to see that the "panic buying" had settled down a bit.

I asked the owner about their .223 ammo stock (they were completely sold out last weekend). He said they were still VERY low on the ammo, but had 20,000 rds coming in a few days. He also noted that his supplier would not be increasing the price, nor would he...

It was kind of reassuring.

To be totally honest I went through my panic buying in April. I purchased six Glock 19 mags and six G17 mags along with a 1,000 rounds of 9mm. Why? Becasue I could and I let the politics get to me. I'm much calmer now, but I'm really stocked up. So there I'm not above the whole situation.

My local shop has been on a tear since october with gun sales and even more since Nov. 4th. They currently have 2 AK-47 that were being put on the shelf late yesterday when I was in there. They had one sold sight unseen before they had tagged it. No AR's, long since gone. High capacity handguns are starting to head out the door as well from the counters.

I hadn't planned on buying anything but ran into a Saiga .223 and told them to stick it back for me. $349 OTD.

Hopefully, all of the people that did the panic buying will then join the NRA. They are going to need all the members that they can muster up!
