Man shoots himself in leg outside Fla. gun store
AP – Tue Feb 9, 9:53 pm ET JUPITER, Fla. - A man accidentally shot himself in the leg shortly after leaving a Jupiter gun store. Police said the unidentified man went to Chuck's Guns and Ammo Monday afternoon, looking for batteries for the laser sight on a small handgun. When the man was back in his car, the gun accidentally fired, hitting him in the leg. Full Story »

Oh my !!!

I blame Glock's lack of a manual safety, even though it was with a 1911.

I like that, I can't resist. I have a 1911 and a Glock. If I ever have an AD I definitely plan on blaming it on the Glock. :D

The man was lucky it was a "small gun", if I had that happend to me they probably would be sewing my leg back on!
No joke though, it is something that can and does happen too often, I treat the muzzel like it's a laser beam, on at all times.

Poor guy. Obviously decided to put the batteries in without first unloading the gun -- and without watching his muzzle direction, either.

You didn’t post the picture but I’m certain I know the one whereof you speak.

If you notice in that picture the barrel split into four equal strips. This isn’t logical.
Also, the strips curved backward as if the powder charge had ignited at the end of the muzzle. A charge of enough power to split the barrel would have broken the bolt lugs and driven the bolt backward.
The picture of the “victim” was added at a later time after the first photos were put onto the internet.

My opinion?
Hoax. PhotoShopped.
