Handgun Registration!?!?

During lunch I heard a radio talk show host describing a bill going to the Senate requiring registration of all handguns. Sponsored by the Senator from Rhode Island. The scary thing is, according to the talk show host, that anyone who fails to register a handgun becomes a FELON. Its a Felony to fail to register a handgun.

Is this one of those bills destined to never make it out of committee? Or is this a serious threat? Anyone know?

If it's true...

And if it passes...

I shall be a felon!

Heck, with all the laws already, I probably am already, but don't know it.

Type in handgun as the search term. There's plenty of bills to read. Most of them go nowhere or die in committee. Still, someone has to keep an eye on this stuff, or someday one might sneak through. Look at how quick a B-movie called "The Blackboard Jungle" turned into a Federal switchblade law.

Gee:

If that happened, it would be illegal not to comply. With the recent stellar displays of respect our politicians have for the rule of law, I'm sure I would go along with it. NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!

Me too.

I've always said, and will always say the same thing:No idiotic, unconstitutional, illegal law is going to affect my gun ownership!

I'm already a white,male,gun-toting,Christian,right-wing extremist. So I already fit the FBI's profile for terrorist.Might as well add felon to the list.

Felons don't have to register their weapons because of the 5th amendment, self incremination. If you don't register, you're a felon, so you don't have to register, wait a minute, this sounds like a government program.

Don't worry, if you bought a new gun, it's already registered. It's called a 4473 form. I think the bill to which you refer is S2099.

There are several bills in Congress right now.

The one in the Senate wants to change the Tax Code to require registration and licensing:

And then there's the House Bill:

http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/D?c106:3:./temp/~c106NLSr1x::

To find out just what they are up to, go to Thomas, http://thomas.loc.gov/ , and search for the word "firearm" or "handgun" or "gun".

It's scary what they are really up to. there's a bill in there somewhere that would require all firearms owners to carry liability insurance, raise the tax on firearms and ammo, effectively making it too expensive for anyone except the very well to do.
