Handgun Refinishing

My old Colt/Essex had so little bluing left on the slide that a change in humidity (slight exaggeration) could start a fine patina of rust if there was not enough oil present. So off to MAC'S SHOOTIN' IRONS it went. I left the frame stainless and everything else went to black. He does fine work.

I should have taken a "before" picture.

why does the rear sight look like a S&W revolver sight?

The pictures are pretty grainy, and probably don't do the finish job much justice.

kle - you have good eyes for me having posted those grainy pictures. I will try get some better ones posted up with a close up of the rear sight. The adjustable rear sights were on the pistol when I got it and they are S&W sights on the Commander slide. The slide was milled to accept them. I didn't complain as I got the 45, a Colt Government 380, and some cash for my Savage 75th anniversary Model 99.

Nekron - Thanks. I wanted to stick to the matte finish but decided not to do the frame. I figured I could always go back to Mac's and have the frame done if I didn't like it. He is in the same locality.

I happen to love the S&W revolver sights =)

I've seen it done on various autos and other non-S&W revolvers, and I think it's very cool.
