Handgun Range Bag Recommendations

Hello,

I am looking for a higher quality range bag. Ideally I would like something that can hold 8 boxes of ammo, glasses, ear protection, and 2 weapons (semiauto pistols).

Any recommendations?

Thanks in advance!

As long as the boxes of ammo you want to carry aren't ammo cans :p the compact bag on that MidwayUSA page is a nice one. I got one in olive drab and it easily holds my Crony, 6 50 rd boxes of assorted rifle ammo, muffs, targets and two low profile lock boxes for pistols. I probably have some more odds and ends in there, but the bottom line is that the little bag holds a ton of stuff and is pretty well made.

Bought a mechanics bag at academy on sale for 9.88 that worked very well. Now I have a large bag from 5.11. I like having the outer compartments.

The 5.11 has a comfortable strap and a lot more room. I'm still happy with that first buy as I didn't know what all I'd want. Yeah te 5.11 is a lil on the large side. Academy sells a similar one for a third of the price but tore a zipper in the store while handling it. My friend bought one and it's held up well so far.

I-Shot

I have one of these. Mine is no longer made, but the quality of construction and usability of pockets is second to none. There is one negative. . .price.

Wow ... the Midway bag at $30 may not be quite the bag that the others are, but so far, mine has held up without issue ... I like quality stuff, but really like getting good quality for a reasonable price. As you can imagine, I like LEE dies but not their progressive presses or scales, the former are good values, the latter are just cheap

I have a heavy canvas duffel that I use for my range bag. It has zipper compartments on both ends and one on one side. I put all my .40 and .22 rounds in it and just grab it when I go to the range. I must have 500 rounds of .40 and 1000 or so .22 in there, in addition to my Glock and Ruger pistols, hearing protection, assorted screwdrivers, oil, rags, etc. It works fine.

Make sure that the straps go all the way around the bag instead of just being sewn to the top.

That mechanics bag I got on sale held 1,100 rounds of real ammo (imagine how much .22 it could hold :) ) it was a great bag just time for more room. Heck my first range bag was a little Napa duffle

I went with the 5.11 because I didn't want to then want to buy another one because that one was too small....

Went to the range today

Barring the AR and AR mags all that fit in fine, still had 400/9mm and 250/.40 6-800/.22, 8 or so extra mags, tools, cleaning, spotting scope.
Just not worth having to figure out how to put everything in perfectly in order for it to fit.

Great Range Bag

Locally we have a county on-line surplus auction. I recently picked up the perfect range bag. I uaually have to carry my range bag, my spotting scope, rifle, ammo can and targets plus umbrella and stand and it is a chore, sometimes I make more than one trip. I bought a Rolling Breifcase with extendable handle. The bag will hold more than I take but instead of carring everything, I can just roll the breifcase which is 18" X 10" x 16". It is made out of leather with two 2"x8"x2' zippered pockets in front and a 16"x12"x3" pocket on the front that the two smaller pockets are sewn to. With the extendable handle and rolling wheels I don't have to really carry anything. You might want to check out something like that. Rolling Breifcase. I will tell you, this will be the perfect range bag. Good luck choosing.

Good kits & kaboodles....

If you want a good range bag or gear bag, see these top sources;

www.Blackhawk.com www.Galls.com www.PoliceHQ.com www.QMuniforms.com www.UScav.com
5.11 does offer a few good designs. Blackhawk(started by a retired US Navy SEAL in VA Beach) has some "low-profile" ;) type kits.
US Calvary markets a lot of GI & milspec stuff.
Avoid the cheap gun show knock off stuff(U-T-G, Leepers, etc)
VooDoo Tactical & Crye Precision; www.CryePrecision.com are decent too.
