Handgun purchase question.

I have question for the firearm gurus, concerning a potential future purchase. I am looking at (yet another) hi-cap handgun. I found a sweet deal on a new in box, Glock 17 with two factory hi-caps for $579.99. I have shot Glocks before G17, 19, 21 and a 23 (I think) never owned one though, I’m a HK fan through and through. My partner carries a G19 for a backup, but she likes the small grip, as she is a small lady.
I was just intrigued by having 18 rounds of 9mm in one gun. What are the pros and con’s to this firearm or is it even a good deal? It would not be a carry weapon I would most likely use it for home defense, along with the other 400 or so assort handguns I already have scattered and hidden around my apartment. :D <--aint this little guy cute...)

Is it a good deal? Well most NIB G17 I see go for around $479 but thats with 2 10 rd mags...so if you figure each factory hicap costs around 80 bucks each...you're getting a good deal.

Pro's: light weight, knock down durability, glocks are tough as nails. no rusting ever. A good finish, No safety (depends on your perspective). Can be accurate.

Cons: not a handsome pistol, not the most ergonomic pistol, doesn't point all that naturally for me, stock trigger pull is not great, stock plastic sights suck.

Enjoy your new pistol,

That's not a particularly great price, at least not where I am (Ohio). Since Glocks are so durable, you might want to consider buying a used one -- odds are excellent that it will be none the worse for wear. Check out Glock Talk ( http://www.glocktalk.com ) to see what current prices are like.

Two more virtues of the Glock 17:

1) It will digest +P and hotter 9mm ammo with very little risk of breakage.

2) It's a very low maintenance pistol. The Glock doesn't need much cleaning and lubrication, but when you do need to field strip it, you can have it apart in a few seconds. If you want to tinker with the innards, you can detail strip it in a few minutes more and drop in a new part with no fitting.

Yes, the stock sights are a weak point, but there are many, many aftermarket replacements available and you can install them yourself.

I don't think its a great deal. You are lawenforcement which means you pick up the high caps for 20 or under each.Think I would pass on it.

I am in CA. They quoted me the price after I made the request on offical Agency letterhead and delievered it in person, complete with a display of credentials.

Maybe the took offence to me...

We can get the hi-caps from the guys here at LAPD, they have a boatload of G17, G22 and G23 mags. Why I dunno???? Most LAPD uniforms I have the priviledge of working with carry 226's or 92F's. CHP carried the Glock, I think.

Thanks,

Maybe that's why it's so high, you're in CA. LOL Seriously though, I think you could do a little better. You didn't mention if the G17 had metal lined mags or not. If they are not lined, PASS on it. The plastic ones they issued on earlier guns suck and won't drop when you punch the release. I've had them stick so bad you actually had to use some muscle to pull them out. Don't ask me why, they were empty at the time. Maybe I left it in the sun too long. LOL (sorry, couldn't resist).
