so many types of ammunition are made to meet certain purposes. weapons are built to those purposes. why do we get made when we get a weapon and an ammunition that meets everyones requirements?



the taurus judge is lambasted as being to weak for serious defense because .410 ammunition is not able to travel 10 feet from the muzzle, go through an interior wall, go another 20 feet and go through another interior wall.

however the buckshot loads MEET the fbi testing standards of 12 minimum inches, that everybody seems to hold as the holly grail and the reason to buy a specific brand of ammo.

however the biggest selling point of the fnh 5.7 pistols is that the round starts tumbling like crazy and loosing penetration power after the first interior wall. if lack of super penetration is the thing we want, then why should we have to hate the judge when it gives us the stopping power AND the lack of to much penetration as well?
 
I gotta agree with some of what you say.....
The Winchester PDX 410 seems pretty good from 5 to around 10 feet,
and the 45 Colt is obviously a tour proven round-no one can dispute that
especially with the 45 self defense rounds available today. I have to admit
that a revolver such as the "Governor" for another example offers alot of
choices in ammo carry being capable of shooting the 45 Colt, 45 ACP,
or 410 in a six shot revolver. For me though, I CCW my Ruger Montado and
still prefer the good ol' 45 Colt round in it's various SD configurations.
 
Check the velocity of the 410 buckshot load. It's up there with a regular 12 gauge buckshot load. Fewer pellets but the same size and similar velocity, similar results.
 
the federal buckshot loads for the judge are listed as being 1050 to 1100 fps from the 2.5/3 inch barrel versions. i did the rough weight calculations and you basically end up with 180-185 grains of buckshot at 1000 fps. thats right in the mean for weight/velocity for most sd ammo for 44 special, 45 colt, 45acp.


the only advantage in the governer is the extra chamber.
