I read about recent study at Sako indoors testing facility that was carried out to see what 9mm commercial rounds could actually do.

I've often wondered how close do some of the finer custom guns come to the absolute potential of the cartidges that they are chambered for. It appears that not so close after all.

These groups were fired from solid fixture @100m indoor range. Four groups of five shots were fired and measured.Barrel was 206mm with sharp edged rifling lands and locking device was two lug sako rifle action.

Here are the results :(group sizes in mm)
Round: group# 1 2 3 4 avrg.
Lapua Megashock
123 JHP 38 43 49 34 41
Leader 123 FMJ 45 40 63 61 52
CCI Blazer 115FMJ 51 61 70 99 70
Magtech 115 JHP 53 74 70 85 70,5
3-D 147 JHP 50 98 74 106 82
Sako KPO 114 102 39 140 137 104,5

Sako ammunition shot tight 4 shot groups that was opened up by the fifth, when this did not took place the group was 39mm. It is possible that all the rounds weren't of the same manufacturing batch. As the same KPO 114 had shot average of 11mm@25m range.

In the light of the above results it appears that 9mmPara is qite suitable round for (in MP5 or M-16 derivates) for LE duty at least what comes to accuracy.
