Handgun bases/rings/scopes

OK, I am forced to admit my eyes are not good enough to shoot at 100 yds with open sights.

This is for my SW .460 XVR.

The set-up I am considering is Warne Basehttp://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=375357&t=11082005

Rings: Burris 1" Quick Release - medium height http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=516703&t=11082005

And scope: Burris 1.5x4 with posi-lockhttp://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=771635&t=11082005

I am not sure what the difference in this base and their standard base is, this is "heavy duty", but the description reads the same.

Looking at the ring chart, it looks like I need medium rings - not sure on that, any expert help on that is welcome.

Any input from the hand cannon owners out there is appreaciated in advance, before I spend my money.

Thanks as always,
Dave

Hey old buddy...

Let me recommend the Night Force base/ring set-up . You already know the scope I use (Aimpoint) which might not be the best for poor vision (my 51 year old eyes ain't great either) but it sure holds up to the recoil and, vision wise, is adequate for me out to 200 yds.

Why not the 1" Warne Quick release rings to match the Warne base? They are high quality and I like mine on my S&W 500 and plan on using them on my S&W 460. Returns to zero. I switch the scope with an EOTech depending upon game and conditions. Never had a problem.

I have had major problems with Burris scopes on high power handguns. Had a reticle break on 2nd round fired from a .480 Ruger. Then had the Posi-Lock come out on the 500. I'll never buy another Burris!

Check the Bushnell 3200, like I told you before. One of the few scopes S&W couldn't cause to fail with the 500. I have the rainguard and firefly features on the one I have on my S&W 500; over 600 rounds without a problem.

Ring height should make no difference; lower is closer to the bore.

LionHunter - thanks for the info, I will check on the Warne QR rings.

I will also check prices on the Bushnells. $$ is getting tight on this project...Well, I guess money is tight on every project, when I think about it :D
