Hammer Pin on Colt DS BROKEN

The past few days my DS has been a little off. It's SA timing, recently factory retimed, has been a tad off if pulled back slowly enough. Then it's action started to get a little rough and then the trigger started sticking if let forward slowly enough.
I sprayed lubricant into the gun....didn't help. I took the sideplate off.....the Hammer Pin that the hammer rides on was BROKEN from the root  I have never dropped this gun, I pull the trigger, fire it and carry it like any other gun. Nothing more, nothing less. What could have caused this? Could this be a fracture from years before I got the gun that finally gave? AND most importantly, is this something an average gunsmith can fix without messing the whole gun up....or does it have to take a $65 plane trip to New Haven, Conneticut?:(

Probably just crystallized over the years. Might have been heat treated wrong way back when. Have you contacted Colt?

I certainly wouldn't trust a local gunsmith to replace a frame pin.

Replacement requires a special support fixture and contoured support dies and press punches to push the pin out without damaging or bending the frame.
Few if any locals will have the tooling, but may SAY they do.
What they'll really do is try to drive the pin out with a punch and damage or ruin the frame.

I recommend Colt as the best, or Pittsburgh Handgun Headquarters in Pittsburgh.
Sorry, this is "one of those jobs" where you just HAVE to see the real experts.
