Hammer Lock Rattle in Model 60

I just purchased a .38 Special Model 60, excellent condition and practically unfired, but it has an annoying rattle. I removed the side cover and it is the hammer lock that is the culprit. It seems as thought it is supposed to move freely, but rattle????? The gun works fine, but that rattle is driving me nuts. Any suggestions?

Hammer lock or hammer block ?
Hammer block rattle normal.
Either get used to it or get older and deafer.
I chose the latter.

I'm assuming you mean hammer block. To stop the rattle, remove the sideplate and put grease in the grove it rides in. I've used RIG grease in the past. Stays put, unless it get up over 90 degrees or so.

Good Luck...

Cool Joe.
I have been usin RIG as corrosion inhibitor for year but always as a very very thin coat. I guess if I was concerned about the rattle I would put a little extra in the groove.

Thanx.

Sam

I would be less concerned about the hammer block rattling than about the lack of lubrication that is letting it rattle. If the grease is too stiff, try any good gun oil. 4-5 drops ahead of the cocked hammer should be enough.
