Hammer fired .40SW suggestions

I think my next purchase will be a hammer fired semi auto in .40SW. The FNH FN 40 is what I keep coming back to but I definitely want to look at it her options.

Any suggestions?

Some police trade in Sig 226 and 229 (?) are available for around the 400 dollar range with night sights.

I've been considering getting one.

I love my 40 caliber Beretta 96. I love my double-stack 1911 40 caliber. Today I bought a 40 caliber CZ75 clone that I know I will love. I have shot a lot of 40 calibers. Those would be my top 3 recommendations. I haven't shot a Browning High Power 40, but I'm guessing that would be my fourth.

I have found my Sig p229 in .40 a very accurate and relatively mild recoiling gun. A police turn in would probably be a good option.

Nobody has said CZ75 yet? You really need to check these out. Precise and easy to shoot. Can be customized to SAO with a carry trigger or target trigger. DA/SA trigger can be tuned to meet your needs.

If I were looking to add another 40 to the mix it would be between the FNH for new (love my FNX-45) or the Sig 226/229 for used (love my Sig 229 357sig police trade in).

CZ75 BD or B. Best hammer fired 40 S&W out there.

It's almost impossible to beat the ex-LEO Sig P226 and P229's on the market now. If you are looking for a new to you .40, check out the deals at Recoil Gun Works.

I really don't like the .40, but somebody pointed out above that they're selling quite cheap right now. His P30 recommendation above is a good one. I saw one selling for about 600 the other day (used) in good condition with a 9mm next to it selling for 800. Quite a deal just for taking a .40 instead of 9mm, my personal biases aside.

I love my 9mm CZ 75B and I suspect the .40S&W would be just as sweet. I used to have a SIG P229 in .40 that was a terrific gun and if I didn't have unexpected expenses that one summer several years ago (I am a teacher, my old job didn't pay over the summer) I wouldn't have sold it. I also had a CZ 40B that I stupidly sold right about the time it was discontinued. I had/have (I have it, it doesn't work) a Taurus PT140 Millennium Pro. Out of those I've had, I'd strongly recommend a .40S&W CZ or SIG.

Sounds like you're interested in polymer, so I'd go CZ P07, P09, or FN FNX40. If you're interested in metal, used Sig P226s or 229s can be found cheap right now.

First choice: SIG P229
Second choice: SIG P226

If it had to be a polymer-frame pistol I would probably go with the Beretta PX4 Storm.

My local Cabelas has a new HK P2000 in .40S&W with a V3 SA/DA trigger variant on sale for $629.00, the 9mm version was not on sale for $70.00 more, this one gets my vote hands down!
