Went to the range today to sight in my rem700 308. I had to remount the scope because I had some aluminum weaver 6 bolt tactical rings that weren't holding my scope securely, plus they were a little too high for my liking; I replaced them with steel Leupold mark 4's.
I set up at 25yds because I'm a big proponent of the 25yd sight-in (and saving ammo). I usually take 1 shot after bore sighting (removing the bolt, looking down the bore, then adjusting the scope accordingly). Fire 1 shot, Then I make sure the rifle is nice and steady on the bags and adjust the crosshairs to the shot, then go out farther.
Now, this has never happened to me before (might not again), I set up, bore sighted, fired 1 shot. Looked at the target and I saw 1 nice bright hole 1/4in off center of the 1" bull . I just sat there and chuckled for a minute before grabbing my target and hiking farther down range.
