J James K Member In Memoriam Sep 1, 2014 #2 AFAIK, H&R used the "Sportsman" name only on the top-break Model 999. Jim

S SaxonPig New member Sep 2, 2014 #5 I think they updated the name along the way. This one from 1941 is marked Sportsman. I think this 999 was made in the 1980s (4" not as common). Reminds me of an Enfield so much I want to put a lanyard ring on it.

J JawjaBoy New member Sep 7, 2014 #7 I think H&R was kind of like S&W back then in that they didn't use model numbers, they used names instead. I inherited one from my grandmother who kept it for her nightstand gun. IIRC, it was made about 1976. Great shooting little gun!
