H&R old 32 long

My wife inherited a H&R pistol and we wanted to know more about it. Hopefully someone here can help us out. It has 4 inch barrel and the serial number starts with AP48xxx It shoots s&w 32 long. It has a hammer but it’s double action only. The hammer will not lock back. It has a pull pin to get the wheel out. It’s has a cut out to see the rounds on the right side but not big enough to load or unload the cartridge. It gas a transfer bar too

H&R made hordes of 4" .32 calibre revolvers until 1986. Several were DA only. H&R along with H&A et al made cheap "pocket pistols" that sold cheap compared to S&W and Colt.
For ID purposes it's sad because they made hordes of the same thing with different model numbers. And they'd change the finish and give it another model number. Mind you, so does S&W.
The 'AP' prefix indicates 1978 manufacture.

Thanks.

It's the model 632, which was built after WW2, so it's smokeless rated. The cutout on the recoil shield is sized for .22 as the frame for the .32's is also used for the .22s. Ejection is best done by removing the cylinder as some models had the ability to eject all 6 or 9 cases all at once.

As for yours, the 632 and 633's were perhaps the strongest built and most accurate .32 S&W chambered revolvers ever built by H&R as the lack of a swing out cylinder helps with barrel/chamber alignment and the solid frame is more, well, solid.

The reason it's not locking back is probably a broken spring. If you feel like trying to fix it there are videos online. Just remember masking tape and brass punches keep from scratching up the gun and making it look like a Bubba job.

I'd say your wife got a nice inheritance, women will appreciate the lower recoil and blast of .32 S&W Long vs a .38 or .22 Mag.
