Hello all I have a h&r gardner model 903 .22lr 9 shot pistol, I am having missfire problems with it, I've replaced the mainspring, firing pin, and firing pin spring, and I'm still having problems missfiring.... the hammer looks fine.... out of 9 rounds it fires 3 maybe 4 times.. any ideas would be great...

thank you

Clean the cylinder where the rim of the bullet sits. Use a dental pick if you have to. The rim of a .22 must be FULLY seated to ensure the firing pin pinches the primer material, if not fully seated the hammer will just push the case into the cylinder and not have enough pressure left to fire the primer.

missfire problems

Hello all, please see the attachment of the cylinder from my H&R 903 .22 the cylinder has dimples in it from the firing pin... 6 have dimples and 3 do not.. the 6 that have dimples do not fire, but the 3 that don't fire... so it looks like I need a new cylinder.... any ideas where I might find a good one....

thanks much

before you give up on that, try using other ammo. something with thinner brass may fire reliably.

Before you buy a new cylinder, ask a gunsmith if he can microweld a bead into the holes, then file a new surface. That cylinder can be fixed, it's just a matter of whether it would be cheaper to fix it or have a new one fitted.

Brownell's sells an ironing tool . It will move the displaced metal back into the dimple.
Common problem from dry firing.

I have used all different brands of ammo and no difference (good news is I have a bunch of ammo for my other .22's)....

I'm not sure if that ironing tool will work, the cylinder has the extractor that fits flush with the cylinder... but I think I'll order one to have in my arsonal of gunsmith tools...

I've looked on Numrich for a cylinder but their sold out of them... any ideas on where to find one??

thanks much

A good gunsmith can fix that without too much difficulty. The ironing tool will not do the trick on that one. Brinadg is correct in that the dimples will need to be filled and filed or machined flush.
