H&R Double Action Revolver

I inherited this little revolver when my grandfather passed away but I know next to nothing about it. I was hoping the experts here could tell me about it.

On the Barrel it says
H&R Arms Company
Worcester Mass USA
38 S&E CTGE

On top of the frame, above cylinder it says
Safety Hammer
Double Action

Serial number on butt is 151880

If anyone could provide a little information about this gun I'd appreciate it. Not really interested in shooting it although it seems like it would fire if I could find ammo.

Check and see if the caliber is not listed as .38 S&W rather than S&E.
H&R Safety hammer double action was an low priced pocket pistol. They were in .32 and .38 S&W calibers, most were nickel plated but they were also made in blue. With out look them up, and If my memory is correct, they were from some thing like the 1890 to 1920's in manufacture. Some of H&R's bobbed hammers were still double/single action despite being spurless, I do not know if that is the case for this one though. They are not a very collected pistol with very high end specimens bring some where less than $300.00 down to $30 or $40.00 based on condition.
My suggestion would be to clean it up and hold it as a piece family history. The ones passed to me from my grandfathers mean the most to me.
 
Yes it is 38 S&W, must have fat fingered the keys when I did my original post. I am able to pull the hammer back into single action mode. From what I read other places I knew it wasn't worth much. I was curious about when it was made. Is there any way to find out exactly when it was made?
 
They were quite popular in the fifty's and sixty's. I almost bought one but could not afford it. They were not that expensive. Guns and Ammo Mag. did reviews on them in the sixtys.
 
Wheres the hammer?
Wheres the cylinder release, crane to spin around to move the cylinder to next round?

With the books I have (mostly on their black powder pistols and some company history) the age is hard to pin down, H&R tended to reuse and rename almost identical guns. The 1st model was .32 or .38 rimfire made from 1888 or 1890 till 1904, second model was for smokeless powder in .32 and .38 and were made till some time in the 1940's. Then other forms of hammerless revolvers kept being made with Safety Hammerless being marked on them I think into the 50's.
9mm the hammer and cylinder pin are flush mounted to the frame, the cylinder pin release is that little bump on the front of the frame just above the trigger guard, and you had to use a pencil to punch out fired cases.
 
Thanks for the info. The revolver just sits in my gun safe collecting dust. I didn't think it was worth much. I'm pretty sure my grandfather had forgotten he even owned it. It was found locked in a safe in the bottom of a closet. No one in the family knew the combo so a locksmith had to open the safe. Other than that I have no idea of the revolver's history. I plan to keep it since it belonged to my grandfather.
