Would like to have your comments about H&R 999, Sporter, 22 LR Revolver. (Accuracy/Reliability/etc)

Thanks in advance:)

I have three of these, one of the earlier version (no barrel rib; firing pin in frame) and two of the later version (vented barrel rib; firing pin on hammer). They are absolutely delightful to shoot. They load very quickly with the HKS speedloader, can be shot single or double action, shoot accurately, and empty shells instantly and automatically ejected when the revolver is opened. Several parts seem to be liable to breakage or malfunction: the plastic topped mainspring guide rod can break, but replacement parts are readily available and easily installed. The mechanism that ejects the shells and then pops back to the cylinder seems to be delicate.

You may happen to find a Sportsman really cheap, but they usually sell on the Internet from $200 to $300, depending on condition. I think some gun-maker should start producing a clone. I think it would be quite popular.

These are great little trail guns, still have the 4" model i bought back inthe late 70's,its not as acutate as the Colt's or S&W's,but its taken a lot of small game for the pot,

I was wondering why H&R quit making it in the first place. Did NEF/H&R quit making revolvers altogether? I don't think so. Maybe if people bug them they will make some more. I would buy one if the selling price was $259 or so... For $300 you can get a new Taurus 970, not a top break, but supposed to be a good gun.

H&R is out of business. Its successors in recent years have chosen not to continue the Harrington handguns. Some of the long guns are still made.

I will never part with mine, it was my first handgun. In fact, I'd really like to find another one, a 4" to add to my 6".

However, the trigger is terrible. I mean really god-awful. The SA is crisp, but horrifically heavy. The DA is so heavy it's nearly impossible to use. Next time I order from Numrich parts I'm going to get a hammer spring and try trimming a few coils off it.

I don't think it's safe to dry-fire it.

I'm with nyetter mine has a mainspring from a DumpTruck
suspension other than that nice handgun I'm going to call Wolf Gunsprings and see if they have a kit.........
