H&R 939 A couple of questions

Recently traded a useless, off name, 9mm derringer for an H&R 939. Seems to be in decent shape. I'm fairly ignorant on revolvers, so bear with me. Questions are:

1. Is it safe to shoot shorts or do I need to stick w/ the long rifle? I'll admit that I've already fired several rounds of shorts through it (bowing my head in shame), but reason has been working on me and it occurs to me that .22 LR may be stamped on the barrel for safety reasons! Prefer the shorts, but... don't want to damage myself or the gun.

2. The rear sight is clealy adjustable for elevation and appears to be so for windage (the thing consistently shoots 2" to the right at 25 ft). Before I mess with it, do any of you know how to make the adjustments?

Your response will be appreciated.

Shorts must be OK

You can use the 22lr or anything smaller in the gun safely, but be sure to brush out the chambers afterwards so crud does not cause problems inserting the longer LR rounds. But it is a question of accuracy probably. Shorter rounds may or may not be accurate, you can only try. I have fired those CCI CB caps for plinking, and the little primer powered BB shorts can be fired inside for fun, if safety is considered, it will shoot like a pellet rifle, and they will tend to ricochet instead of penetrate on hard surfaces. Make a trap of some sort. If it shoots to the right, only a couple inches, try different ammo to be sure it is a pattern, as that is not much. Then drift the rear sight to the left to compensate, it will probably take very little, like 10/1000 or less to move it 2" at 25 yds.

If it's shooting to the right, you need to move the rear sight SLIGHTLY to the left (as looking down the barrel.) Just turn the adjusting screw on the side. ( FWIW, All the H&R's I had tended to have threir sights loosen with shooting.)
You might also scrub the snot out of the barrel with a wire brush and some solvent. Lead build up can be hard to see but will effect where it groups.
