H&R 922 Cylinder Issue

I acquired the snubby 923 from a friend after a day at the range where it was deemed unsafe as the sear was boogered up by a hack. I finally was able to find the proper sear and upon reassembly it locked up just fine. HOWEVER, the cylinder did not advance on either single or double action mode. I replaced the lever spring assembly (hand) to no avail. With the cylinder removed and with manual cocking of hammer, the lifter operates, the hand protrudes but seems to lack sufficient tension to turn the cylinder. Interior housing is clean and polished and everything is properly lubricated. Any ideas?? Thanks.

What is the condition of the ratchet on the back of the cylinder? Due to the way that ratchet is made, it is shallow and it can be easily damaged or worn.

Also, the top of the hand has to be pretty sharp, again to get into that small ratchet.

The cylinder is slightly worn, popped in a real crisp 922 cylinder and have the same symptoms. I'm really at a loss on this one!

I assume that the cylinder stop is releasing the cylinder, and that there is nothing stopping it from turning.

If that is the case, then re-check the hand. Very often the hand isn't protruding enough and has to be fitted by trimming down the front. Also, I assume that the hand is the type that has a little wire sticking down that fits into a hole in the trigger. That wire often has to be adjusted by bending, again part of fitting that hand. (Whoever said H&R's were simple, lied.)

What Jim said...also, you may want to look at the fit of the hand to the ratchets of the cylinder. Make sure the hand is not binding the cylinder from rubbing outside the ratchet's grooves. Since the hand is not the revolvers, some light filing or bending may be required to get the fit.
