I have a chance to get a good deal on a H&R handi rifel in 45-70, will it handel heavy handloads and loads like garrett's +p or do I have to stick with factory loads. Thanks.

If you are still in the "making up your mind" mode, I would suggest that you pass on the handi-rifle. Cylinder wall strength looks good, but the break open action of the gun, causes much concern regarding its ability to handle big loads such as our 45-70 +P ammo. Our ammo is definitely not recommended in that gun. Ruger #1s, Browning 1886s & 1885s, and all Marlins, and new production 1886s, those are all fine. Take a close look at the Marlin, it's a very good value.
