Hello, I'm new to the forum and trying to identify a pistol that my Grandmother gave me. Its an H&R .32 S&W ctge. top break 5 shot revolver. all blue with black grips, 3" barrel, auto eject, and serial number 475 116. Trying to figure out model and if its a blackpowder or modern cartridge revolver. Thank you

To add to the info, there is no patent numbers on the barrell, Harrington & Richardson and address are 2 lines on top of the barrell .32 S&W on left side of barrell. The serial number is on bottom of grip as well as under the grips. This gun also has the leaf spring

ffcmckinney,
You have an H&R PREMIER Small Frame Auto Ejecting 2nd Model (can't tell variation without full stamping on top of barrel rib) - but probably, from the serial number a 5th or 6th Variation. It was made sometime between 1914 and 1924 or so and will handle modern .32 S&W smokeless cartridges (the shorter ones) if safe to shoot. IF, the grip panels ride on top of the grip frame, which will be all one thickness - it is a 7th Variation and a bit more scarce. Retail value cannot be evaluated without more info.

I had one from my grandfather. So worn out and loosey goosey I wouldn't dare shoot it. I made a shadow box and mounted it with some original ammo and part of the ammo box and gave it to my son. I was told by a collector it was about worthless.

Rifleman1776,
That was a smart move - it's a "heritage piece" with family value - to a collector it has "no value" to your family the value is inestimable.

Thank you 32 Magnum. The top of the barrel reads Harrington & Richardson Arms Co. and the second line reads Worcester Massachusetts USA no patent numbers. I was unable to get a good picture of it. Judging by the grip frame I believe it is a 6th variation.

Hey Cousin!!

I don't have anything to add concerning your question but would like to welcome you to the forum. There are a lot of folks here that really know their business.

Have a great day!
James
