H&K USP Date Codes & Changes?

I've got an opportunity to buy a NIB H&K USP 9mm stainless full size for a great price (it is a Variant 3-control lever on left side, DA/SA, Decock, no safe position).

I looked at it the other day and noticed that the date code was KH or KI (can't remember for certain). The date code would indicate the gun was manufactured in '97 or '98.

I'm wondering if there have been any changes to the USP since 1997 (other than the integral lock). I know there were some improvements made at various times, I just can't remember what was changed and when it was changed.

Any info would be appreciated.

Read here:

Anything late 1995 (KF) and after would be the newest version. The stainless versions showed up in two different finishes, one was a matte "dull" looking stainless while the other was a little brighter like Sigarms look.

Some of the first USPs had conventional rifling while the rest are polygonal. I know this doesn't affect you '97-'98 USP, but it is interesting info. Nothing has been changed lately, so you're OK.

wildboarZ ,

Now that you mention it, I believe it is one of the matte stainless finishes. My .45 compact has the more polished finish.

Now that I read that on HKPRO, I remember that was what I had read regarding changes.

I'm afraid I can't let this one get away. I think I'll buy it.
