H&K USP 45 v. Kimber Pro Carry. I can't decide. Kimber makes a pretty gun, but is it reliable?

Thanks

Yes, what's the gun to be used for? If for carrying the Kimber will be easier. If for heavy amounts of shooting the USP will last longer. If for casual shooting, either will probably outlast you.

Unless it is the USP Compact these guns do not fit the same niches.

My Kimber Pro CDP has been totally reliable for me. No complaints.

I picked the Kimber for the sole reason that I have one, and I am delighted with it. I never even fired the HK. I guess my vote is biased, but oh-well!

I want it for self defense and conceal carry. Maybe for USPSA competition.

Even though I don't own a Kimber, I'd have to say that the Kimber may serve you better for the above stated need. However, if you're a fairly big guy you may be able to carry/conceal the full-size USP .45 with no problems. Its really not that hard when dressed appropriately. I mostly carry the USP .45 Compact instead of the full-size - but I have the option since I own both.

I carry the Kimber HD Stainless. Great gun...but then I love a stainless gun. VERY accurate and has a wonderful trigger.

I have a highly modified Colt Gov. Model and Officers Model and a HK USP 45. All three are very accurite and totally reliable. I bought the HK as a duty weapon. The HK is a great firearm, but the only reason that I bought it was to satisfy the brass with the aditional safety features such as double action, decocker, blocked firing pin etc. Anyone willing to learn the safety features and properly carry a colt style (Kimber) will most likely find it easier to shoot. There is just something about the way the Colt style 45 naturally points. It is like an extention of your arm. As to 7 or 8 shots vs the 10 or 12 in the HK. If you do it right, one mag from the Colt style is all you need. I would go with the Kimber.
Good Shooting, John K

I don't think you can go wrong with either. The Kimber will be easier to carry, but I'd on the H&K for reliability.

Now, I'm not going to say the Kimber can't be reliable, just that I'd lay money on an H&K in any reliability test.

I'd pick the one I shoot the best (rent them both and shoot them if you can) and not look back.

"I want it for self defense and conceal carry. Maybe for USPSA competition."

1911s are most size efficient and thus concealable .45s available.

As for competitions, they dominate the scene.

Definatly the HK USP .45

I bought a Kimber Custom Classic on my b-day a few years ago, last April i took it to the range along with my HK i had at the time. After shooting several mags from tthe Kimber then moving on tho the HK i had i realized that the kimber didnt "do it for me any more". I went out the next day traded the Kimber with some $$$ for the HK. I haven't looked back since. My USP 45 is the gun that made me keep adding to my USP family. Be very careful though once you buy one HK they are a virus and you find your self rationalizing why you need them all.

Edit: check out this link, its a test someone did from 1911 forum board between a customized 1911 a Glock and the HK USP 45 http://www.1911forum.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=3132
