H&K USP .40 vs. Steyr M40

I'm looking for a new concealed carry gun and I can't decide which of these two guns to go with. Any opinion would be helpful.
Thanks.

Hmm, those are both pretty big for concealed (to me anyway - I know SOME of you manage to hide a 1911!)

You plan on IWB carry?

I have an M40, and I'm currently shopping for a USP.

This has come up before in another post; with me, the deal is that I just didn't realise how much I wanted a SA/DA option, a decocker, adj. sights and all the accessories that went along with an established weapon like the HK. Also, my particular M40 (59xx) tends to shoot low and left, which just annoys me.

OTOH, it is an extremely well made piece (the barrel, btw, is way lower than the HK's, or your Glocks, for that matter) and I've never had any trouble concealing it SOB or in a G&G paddle holster or even in the pocket of my khakis. Seriously. I mean, it prints a little in the pocket, but if it's just for short little chores out of the house, it beats putting on an untucked shirt or light jacket in summer weather.

Well, the USP compact has been tested and approved/bought by the DEA, INS/Border Patrol, US Marshals, German police, etc.

Can't say that about the Steyr - yet.

I have a M40 which I like very much for its sights and accuracy. Did you know about the S40 since you said you were looking for concelled carry? The S is about an inch shorter I believe, but otherwise the same.

I have M40 and currently look for USP. If you're lucky to get an M40 without its usual bugs -- and I've had these bugs in both of my Steyrs up to here -- you'll be very pleased. .40 rounds are very subdued when shot with this gun. However, since you plan to carry it concealed, I must say that in a direct comparison, USP is the winner. It's very reliable as well.

An excellent suggestion from mept regarding S40 -- if GSI has imported a good bunch, try it out. One thing though -- if you haven't shot Steyr, I'd advise doing it first for you may simply not like the unusual grip and angle.

USP for me. It's a larger sized pistol, but I just can't stop loving mine.

IIRC, Tim Lau shot 5000 rounds through his USP without cleaning it over the course of a year... and much worse has been done to lots of them, all without a problem.

But then, listen to Mike (BrokenArrow) above - he goes through so many different brands yet keeps coming back to the USP for some damn reason, I couldn't fathom why :D
