H&K G3 assembly

Just purchased a Federal Arms G3 receiver for $150.00. Has anyone assembled a rifle on one of these? If so what was your experience? Looks like the parts kits are around $200.00 and there appear to be enough "US Made" parts available to assemble it legally.

Thanks for the info.

Hey, check out www.hk91.com for lots of information about the different G3 clones. Do a search on it for "federal arms" or the like for more information that you'll likely read in a day.

Building up a G3 from a kit and fed arms receiver needs some serious equipment to accomplish. There's a lot of TIG welding to be done with the cocking tube / trunion assembly and the barrel is pressed in with a 2-ton hydraulic press. It's not for the feint of heart to tackle.

A smith that can do all that is Jim Gravitt at http://www.protech-engineering.com

The Fed Arms aluminium receiver doesn't require any welding. The cocking tube is held in a recess in the front of the receiver and the barrel, still attached to the trunion, is pinned in place. Of course, there can be problems with this method.
