guy buyback & zip guns

West Palm Beach is having an epidemic of shootings, so the mayor has decided to have a gun buying program this year. That way it looks like she's doing something about it. It's called project ceasefire. I hate the misnomer gun buyback. How can the gov't buy "back" something it never owned? The thought of collector's pieces and good guns people don't know anything about getting melted down for scrap just rubs me the wrong way. :barf:

That said, I'd like to take advantage of it in any way possible. But I've never seen one of these programs in action before. Are you allowed to stand outside and buy guns from people walking in?

Also, would they take zip guns? I don't see anything in Florida law against making a zip gun. Nothing in federal law either, as long as it's not an AOW. Is there any reason I couldn't make 4 or 5 zip guns and trade them for the $100 Target gift certificates? Too bad they're not Walmart gift cert's- I could get a decent shotgun for that.

I'd like to hear from people who have been to these things, and would appreciate any other advice or experiences they would be willing to share.

Call them up and ask. But I wouldn't make a zip-gun, they will be shown all over the TV and they will probably say that these are the guns that gun owners have :barf: .

But I already sold all my old 38 and 32 parts guns for much less than $100.... :(

Besides, they won't show the zip guns on the news. They'll show the scary "assault weapon" they got for a $200 gift certificate. They keep saying this on the ads: "$200 for all assault weapons". What is an assault weapon, now that those aren't banned? If they're not banned, they aren't defined then, are they?

Eghad,

Most of the "buybacks" state that you have to turn in a working firearm. If you turn in an inert firearm they can't get on the news and say that they "removed this instrument of death from society".

How would they know, I bet you they have some type of "gun owner turned anti" there to dry fire it to make sure that they hear the "click" of the firing pin moving forward or that the trigger and hammer works. I wouldn't put it past them.

If everyone was to bring in a box of parts or a gun that is clearly non-working then they can't get on TV and say that they removed instruments of death, it would make them look stupid. How can a box of parts or a seized up firearm be of any danger to the community?

Zip-guns though I think would be bad. You will have the libs and the sheeple pulling out their 1960's and '70's movies to see the evil of the zip gun and the gangs that used them (hell, they would probably start another ban on auto knives that Florida finally got rid of).

You've got to understand that these gun buybacks are nothing but an extention of the anti's agenda. That it's created to demonized guns and gun owners. That "responsible" gun owners "turn in" their guns for $25, $50, or more gift certificates and those who don't are evil and selfish.

The same with gun lock give-a-ways. They don't care about anything except an agenda. If they have a gun lock give a way in your area and you don't get one (or others) then as soon as something happens in that area they have a "we gave out gun locks and those people didn't get one and now look at what happened".

It's not for the children, it's for the agenda. That's it. They could care less about you, your family, the children, or anything else, if they can promote their agenda, then it was worth it.

*Sorry to get so emotional but I have these people pegged on their true agenda.
