Gunvault?

I have a small safe in my bedroom but it's a combo lock so not good for emergencies. What's your guys opinion on the gunvault(biometric or the regular one)? I keep getting mixed info on it.. I want quick acces to my guns but most important of all I want to keep them away from my 4 year old
 
I really like the standard GunVault ... actually I like the Deluxe version of it with a light inside. I have found them to be very reliable and if you use a 6 press combination and use the tamper indicator, they would keep the kids safe.

I LOVE the finger print reader that logs me onto my computer, but I don't trust them for something that REALLY needs to work when you need it to. If you finger is wet, or cut or dirty, they don't always work.

Pistol safes using the Simplex mechanical locks are usually what I suggest. No batteries, no cheap chinese electronics, very old and long lasting design, and available from several manufacturers.
 
There was an old post here where the gun vault failed since the unlocking cable broke.

I would trust my bedside weapon to a more robust lock system.
 
Sounds like you want an electronic handgun safe. If you want something that is heavy duty with a reliable mechanical lock take a look at the one I make http://www.fas1safe.com. V-line and Ft. Knox also make boxes with a similar lock that are much stronger than a Gunvault. Take a look at the weights and gauge steel used in the fabrication. It's not important to everyone since all will keep your kids out, but there is a huge difference between 18ga and 7ga steel as far as the integrity of the box itself.

It quit working so I opened it with the key, changed the batteries, still no dice. I got to looking cause if I shook it around some of the buttons would work but others wouldnt. Well the problem is that when the lid closes it pinches the cable going from the keypad to the lock. It would cost me more to return it than it would to cut the foam around the wire so it wouldnt pinch it anymore. Yes some may not like it but since I have done this I havent had any problems.

1 Year warranty. We are currently sold out until the end of the month. This batch will likely be sold out by the time they are ready to ship as we have been struggling to keep up with demand recently.

Well that was just my experience. You may buy one and it will work without out issue. Just wanted to let you know that there are bad ones out there.
 
Love my Gunvault

I've had the Deluxe Gunvault for a few months now and love it. Since I carry every single day, it gets opened at least twice a day and I haven't had any problems. I'm very happy with it.
 
I would say that whatever you buy, you should exercise it thoroughly before putting it into real service. The fact that many of us have used these vaults for years without issue says to me that the design is probably solid ... but the fact that a few have had bad luck says that the manufacturing control may be an issue. In this case, most failures should result from a defect and happen early in the life of a bad copy. I'd open it several times a day for the first month and then feel comfortable.

wasn't there a recall on some of these motorized locks a year ago or so ? Something about a plastic cam wearing out after N uses. Perhaps some of those are still in the supply stream. I'm sure google has the answer. Be careful when buying....
