Gunvault comments/reviews?

Evening, gentlemen...

I need to purchase a couple of bedside, lockable containment devices for our SD handguns.

My youngest son is 14, and though experienced with both rifles and handguns, Florida law requires loaded weapons to be locked in the home.

I know...I'd rather just leave it loaded in the nightstand, as I have no concerns about my son "playing" with a loaded handgun. But, the law is the law, and I will comply.

Is the combination (non-biometric) Gunvault reliable? Which is preferable- the top-opening Microvault (MV500), or the front-opening GV-1000? Don't need anything large- they're for a CZ-82, and Ruger LC9 along with their respective spare mags...

Any suggestions (for a similar cost) for an alternative?

I have NanoVault 300. The one with the number lock. Love it for my glock and for transportation purposes.

I've heard people say the front door open is better then top open because sometimes you can accidentally re-close the top part in the spur of moment.
 
I have the non biometric front opening version and it's been really good for me. I use it daily with no issues. I have the larger size with the extra shelf and I can keep 4 full size semi autos in it.

I did also look at the FAS, but barring reliability issues with Gunvault, I like the fingertip combination access of the GV better. Seems it would be significantly easier to gain access half-asleep in pitch darkness...
 
I have the push-button MicroVault and like it fine. It will hold 2 pistols or a pistol and a spare mag fine. Also comes with a nice little cable and attachment system that allows you to use it in a car or a hotel room. Whether you get the top-opening Micro or one of the front opening units depends on how you are going to place it. The top opener works well in a drawer or under a bed. Behind a cabinet door or on a high shelf you would want it to open in front. Overall a well-made device IMO.

Given that they're sitting out on the nightstands, I think the slimmer look is less attention-getting than the Gunvault.

I love my gunvault. I've had it for years and it works great. I highly reccomend this product especially for those with children.

As far as how easily the button combinations are at night, they are probably pretty equal. You can do either one very quickly by feel only with just a little practice. I have seen customers that will pre-punch the combo when they go to sleep so they just need to turn the knob to open it. At least until they get comfortable knowing that they can punch the combo very easily.

The real difference besides electronics is the strength of the box and having the holstered (trigger covered) gun presented to you in the same way every time which means you won't be fumbling for your gun after it's opened. The FAS1 is 3/16" and weighs 21 lbs.

21 lbs...holy crap... that's some steel.

The mechanical vs. electronic locking system is certainly a valid consideration...
