Gunsmith robbed

Just heard on the news that 4 men over-powered a gunsmith in his shop and stole a dozen handguns, an assault rifle, and a shotgun. Gunsmith is OK.

I sure hope they have a license and get those guns registered and install trigger locks, before they get into REAL trouble. I know it'll make me feel safer.

What kind of lunitics robs a gunsmith
shop? did they have a death wish? what made them think they could get away wit it? were they mad?

American Rifleman from time to time carries the results of someone trying to rob a gunshop...

In one instance out in Arizona three teenagers tried it. As two distracted the clerk, another grabbed a shotgun and loaded it. The clerk pulled his gun, told the kid to drop the gun, and when ignored and swung on, shot the kid (17 year old, if I remember correctly) to death.

Pity of it is that the dead kid's 15-year-old sister was along for the ride, and ended up being charged with his murder. I don't know how it turned out in the end after it went through the courts.

Don't posture. Gunshops get robbed and the clerks get killed. Happened in San Antonio a few times. It is not that rare.

Before you think this is a joke, try a FOF class. Even with everyone armed and knowing that something bad is going to happen, you can get taken down quite easily.

So unless you haven't tried, chest pound somewhere else. The American Rifleman doesn't
do a column where the good guy gets killed.

Damn, I'm cranky today but I guess I'm getting fed up with those who think they are invincible because they carry.

Glenn,

I'm with you. If simply carrying a firearm makes you invincible, how come so many LEO's are killed by convicted felons who are on parole with illegally gotten guns? Maybe I just answered part of the question.

A couple of months ago I posted what had happened to me at a gunshop here in Ohio. For those who missed it I will try to repost:

I used to hang out at one of the local gunshops on the way home from work or on my day off. I was sort of an unofficial employee. I was told where the shop's 'hot' guns were and I also carried my own .38 snub in a fron pants pocket. The normal employee carried a cocked and locked .45 on his hip pocket.

One day, just a couple of days after another shop in the area was robbed and the owner killed as he showed up for work one morning, I was at the shop as usual. I had waited on several customers already this particular morning and was busy doing something else when another customer came into the shop. The customer, kinda scruffy-looking, was ambling around the store, then asked Gary some questions about the availability of some things.

While Gary had his back to the customer, looking up the info, I heard Mr Scruffy say 'I have a gun...' and proceeded to pull up his shirt and pull a gun out of the waistband of his pants. My snub cleared my pocket in a flash and I drew down on Mr Scruffy from my location about 12 feet away. Mr Scruffy caught the movement out of the corner of his eye and froze. It was a good thing he did! I had already taken most of the slack out of my gun's trigger pull.

Gary turned around and told the guy 'That was a pretty stupid thing to do!' when he saw the situation.

It turned out that the gun Mr Scruffy pulled out was one that he wanted to have repaired. It was a piece of junk. Gary told the guy to smash the thing up with a slegehammer.

Gary explained to the guy why I acted the way I did. Mr Scruffy was very appologetic! He was admonished to NEVER do something that stupid again!

After Mr Scruffy left Gary told me that while he appreciated my effort, next timeplease just rack the slide on the 870. That would have stopped most people dead in their tracks without coming quite so close.

I was shaking for several hours afterwards!

As it turns out, the gunsmith knew the slimes that attacked him. They were customers that had been in his shop several times. He was an older gentleman and the thugs were late teens, early 20s. I'm sure his guard was down considerably. He is a lucky man.

My post was not intended to make light of the situation. It was intended as a sarcastic comment about the effectiveness of registration, licensing, trigger locks and other anti-gun jokes.

There is no humor in ANY situation of this nature. Just as there is no humor in the increased attacks on LEOs in Austrailia and England, just for their weapons.

The tighter the anti-gun morons restrict guns to LAW ABIDING citizens, the more frequent and vicious these types of crimes will become. Soon the world will have the best armed criminals and most vulnerable citizens ever imagined.

Hitler must be laughing in hell!
