Gunsmith in Dallas area

I have a Ruger Mark II .22 that needs some service. Has been lightly used over last 15 years and now jams almost every clip. I am reluctant to tear it all the way down to clean and check. I would rather not ship the gun.

Any recommendations for local service ??

Gun Master in Plano used to have a gunsmith. I am not sure if they do now. If not, I bet they could refer you to someone.

Lynn, you should be able to field strip it without much difficulty. If you don't have an original instruction manual, you can find detailed field stripping in the NRS's Firearms Assembly...Pistols and Revolvers handbook, available from the NRA at a very modest cost, or maybe at your local library. You shouldn't have to dismantle it completely. There may even be YouTube videos that show how to field strip.

Once you have done a basic field strip (with grips removed), you can merely soak everything in mineral spirits or use Walmart's house brand ("Supertech") carb cleaner to make it squeaky clean. Just use it with adequate ventilation.

If you are still having feeding issues after that, I would go to the prime #1 suspect, the magazine.

Local gunsmith recommendation

I want to thank COOP for recommending McClellans. I had them strip my Mark II and give it a good cleaning and minor polishing, check my mags etc.

Took it to the range and it now works flawlessly. Money well spent in my opinion. This has always been one of my favorite hand guns but spent too much time in the safe. I plan to start using it more often as it is such a pleasure to use and is extremely accurate.

You should have spent a few minutes on YouTube and learned how to work on your own gun. They are not hard to strip and clean. And its just going to get dirty again if you shoot it.
