Lynn, you should be able to field strip it without much difficulty. If you don't have an original instruction manual, you can find detailed field stripping in the NRS's Firearms Assembly...Pistols and Revolvers handbook, available from the NRA at a very modest cost, or maybe at your local library. You shouldn't have to dismantle it completely. There may even be YouTube videos that show how to field strip.
Once you have done a basic field strip (with grips removed), you can merely soak everything in mineral spirits or use Walmart's house brand ("Supertech") carb cleaner to make it squeaky clean. Just use it with adequate ventilation.
If you are still having feeding issues after that, I would go to the prime #1 suspect, the magazine.
