Gunsmith cert

The more I think about it, the more interesting it sounds. I'm tired of sitting behind a computer desk and installing printers all day.

What is the best way to about getting my gunsmith certification? Is there a particular program you would recommend?

Any and all information would be helpful.

I have searched (with my computer), for any certification in Michigan for gunsmiths and have found nothing. I have concluded therefore, in Michigan, there is no law/statute that would keep anyone from calling themselves a gunsmith. Nevertheless, I am sure that some other states would have a different situation.

If you don't want to jump into it all at once try the summer Gunsmith classes sponsored through NRA. You can find out if you like and want to do it full time before giving up your day job.

I have taken classes the last three summers at Montogemerry Community College and they were great. Highly recomend them, no experience with any of the others, so I cannot say one way or the other.

I've been interested in gunsmithing, but i've heard that its very hard to make a living at it, and it's better off to make it a part time job. Is this true. I'm just getting sick of my 11.00 an hour at a factory.
 
D go to Trinidad! Best gunsmith school in CO.
It was a little long distance from KY to CO but worth the time, money and effort.
F I have been part time for 27 years . I work in a factory too but make more than 11.00 per hour.:-)

The best way to do it would be to go to work for a good established gunsmith. You will learn by doing the work. Don't expect to get rich.
 
+1 one for the school in Trinidad, tell Speedy the folks @ Quail Creek say "HI". Also +1 on working for an established gunsmith after training. Will give you a chance to improve your skills and save up for tools and equipment.
It's a profession for folks that really love guns, all guns, and as has been pointed out you won't get rich. Almost as bad as being a bicycle mechanic. ;)
