Guns & Hollywood

I sent this to U.S. News after their story in the May 17 issue, "It's guns and Hollywood."
I don't know if they will publish it, but perhaps if assailed with letters with a similar theme maybe they might do something with it.

Re: Guns and Hollywood.

I guess I could accept the calls for increased gun restrictions if the police and Hollywood were subject to the same restrictions. It would be a variation of "Truth in Advertising" so to speak.

Hollywood films would have to show police and citizenry complying with current gun restrictions. Trigger locks, one gun a month, five day waiting periods, etc., would show what frauds on the American public these rules are.

Since Littleton has demonstrated the government and its police have no legal obligation to protect the public, then it is only fair the police in real life be subject to the same gun control laws that bind the general public. If the public can't have "assault weapons", then the police should also not have them. After all, their only purpose is to kill people. And aren't the police supposed to be kinder and gentler under the banner of Community Oriented Policing?

Of course, Hollywood would be permitted to portray the criminals and terrorists as not bound by these restrictions and able to obtain any firearm their hearts desire.
