guns and taxation

I for long have thought the government is looking at gun control in another vane.

A ready source of income (tax)

Let's assume:
1. the current debate is a smokescreen for things to come (an easy source of money)
2. register all guns (we may not like it, but short of a true revolution it ultimately it will happen)
3. conservatively assume there are 60 million guns out there
4. each gun is taxed $5 each year (not a one time tax)
5. Yes, I know it will be hard to collect all the tax, but even if they collect 70% they would still have new income to play with
5. How does $210 million/year sound?
6. the government would have a windfall income to be used as they know best???

This may just be a wild idea but don't sell our elected officials short. By doing something like this they would accomplish two things. Allow people to keep their guns and generate new income. To a true politition this is a win/win situation.

Your comments are anticipated.

First off I will not register my guns,Second of all there is a Senator that is trying to do just that by making all guns come under the NFA of 1934 as Full Automatic weapons do. You would then have to pay a $50. fee / tax stamp to own, just as they pay $200. for automatic weapons. The IRS would then be resposible to collect the fees.
I don't remember the Senatos name but this is what he was promoting and I believe it has already been flushed.
For what its worth :)

Some people can't see the forest for the trees.

As my grandmother used to say. A smart man changes his mind, a fool never does.

I don't want to register anything I have, but either you do or you become a criminal???

We might as well face it. We are not living in the 1800's. Maybe you would rather be dead and not able to enjoy any access to guns. If you love anything strongly enough you should be able to achieve some level of compromise.

Personally, I would not give my life for an inanimate object. Only mine or my families life is worth it.

Yes I know about the IRS deal and it may be the vehicle but the $50 will not fly. Think of how your government operates, they want as much as they can get for as long as they can get it.

Really like to jab you guys. Can't we get some articulate discussion going here?

JD, You jabbed :) I do not consider myself a foolish man. I do stand on my principles. My priciples dictate that I will not become one of the mindless followers of a tyrannical following of people who think they are right and you and I are wrong,a mindset of people who cannot by no other means solve their own problems and blame and extort money from others to solve them for them, and that we have no god given rights as protected by the Constitution of the United States of America. You are absolutely right about inanimate objects. I won't give my life for a gun. I won't do this to prserve or save an inanimate object but to preserve our Country as it was set up under the Constitution. I guess I will then become a criminal. Where does this stop? where does the line get drawn? As we see by the news of today Our Government is using Legalized Blackmail and Extortion to obtain their goals. Now if it were the MOB doing this they would be getting investigated and hammered under RICO. I guess since this is being done for the good of the Country and the Safety of Our Children it makes this all legal. I don't think so. You and I both know that none of this has to do with gun safety and the safety of our children,as they would like you to believe, you know that none of this will deter a criminal from carrying out their evil deeds. A program of the Politicaly Elite to disarm America as has been done in England, Austallia and other foreign countries. Do I believe I will see this in my lifetime I don't think so. But my friend I will do what I think I have to do at the time to stand for what I believe is right. I'm glad our forefathers had the fortitude to do the same or we might still be bowing to the Queen and none of this would be under discussion. I think about this everytime I go to vote and everytime I write my elected employees :) Anyway guns are already registered with every purchase in the 4473 form and the Dealers bound book.
In my opinion and my 2 cents and remember you jabbed :)

Happy Shooting :)
